Hello all Rice ED applicants! Just wanted to get this thread started for decision release sometime next month. Please post stats if you are a fellow applicant, and good luck with decision notifications!!

I applied ED and had my interview on saturday. AHHH. I really hope I get in!

ACT: 33 (raw composite)
GPA: 3.867
Intended Major: Biochemistry and Cell Biology

I am also an applicant for the Rice/Baylor Medical Scholars Program.

Here is a good template to use. Makes it organized and easier to post stats and read the thread

does it come out on the 15th?

Is there also a certain time the decisions are released? Like at midnight or at 5 pm?

Hi guys! I’m applying ED, as well, and I’ve had Rice as my definite first choice since sophomore year, so I really hope I get in! My GPA might kill my chances, though…

Objective:
•SAT I (breakdown): 2350 highest one-time, 2380 superscored (CR: 790, W: 800, M: 790)
•ACT (breakdown): 34
•SAT II (place score in parentheses): 780 Chem, 750 Math II
•Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.68 (Weighted 4.62)
•Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 40/491 (18/491 Weighted)
•AP (place score in parentheses): Stats (4), World (5), Chem (5), Language and Composition (5). I also took Human Geography Freshman year, but I got a 3 so I didn’t include it. I’m taking Calc BC, Literature and Composition, Psychology, and Biology this year.
•IB (place score in parentheses): N/A
•Senior Year Course Load: Chamber Singers (highest form of choir, admitted by audition only), Honors Civics, AP Psych, AP Calc BC, AP Lit, AP Bio
•Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semifinalist

Subjective:
•Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Girl Scout since 1st grade, school newspaper (Managing Editor), drama club (Executive), two musicals a year, NHS, Tri-M Honors Society, Religious school assistant grades 8-11
•Job/Work Experience: N/A
•Volunteer/Community Service: Various activities from being a Girl Scout
•Summer Activities: Counselor at summer camp for 8 weeks going into 12th grade, 7 week trip to Israel with NFTY going into 11th grade
•Essays: I think these are a strong point for me. I worked tirelessly on not only the CA essay, but the supplements and made them convey who I am as much as possible.
•Teacher Recommendations: I picked two teachers who have a lot of experience writing recommendations, know me well, and like me. That being said, I didn’t see the recs, so I don’t know for sure what they are like.
•Counselor Rec: My guidance counselor had no clue who I was before I became the only Nation Merit Semifinalist in the city. Hopefully she did her research since then and wrote a good rec, but it’s probably a little weak.
•Additional Rec: N/A
•Interview: I think it went pretty well. It was casual and with a Senior on campus.

Other
•State (if domestic applicant): Connecticut
•Country (if international applicant): USA
•School Type: Public
•Ethnicity: Caucasian
•Gender: Female
•Income Bracket: 100k+
•Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I showed so much interest in this school. I attended every info session I could, and flew to Texas from Connecticut twice to visit campus, get an interview, do an overnight, get a tour, and do an info session.

Reflection
•Strengths: My SAT scores, definitely. I think my essays are also pretty great, but those are harder to assess.
•Weaknesses: My GPA. I slacked off a little sophomore year (I was a B student), but otherwise I consistently get A’s. My EC’s are a bit lacking, but I think I demonstrated in my interview that I dedicate a ton of time to them and that I’m deeply passionate about them.

Anyone think I have a decent chance at getting in? It won’t be the end of the world if I don’t, but it’s been my dream school for a while now. December 15 could not come quickly enough!

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve heard that decisions are customarily released at 5 pm, Rice time.

So are decisions posted Dec 15 at 5pm?

Can anyone tell me what Esther is?

ESTHER is the administrative portal. It is where you register for classes, view your bill, see financial aid, request a transcript, see your grades etc etc.

It also was probably coded by Lady Ada Lovelace and hasn’t been upgraded since the 1800’s.

So when do you think they will notify us of early decision acceptance this year? I know last year, they were going to notify everyone on the 13th of Dec., but pushed to the week of Dec. 16th.

Last year, I think they pushed back the ED deadline because of a storm of CA difficulties? Which would be why they pushed back the notification. I don’t know for sure though, just another Senior :)

I did early decision but I’m not sure… Do international students (I’m Asian) from Texas get higher or lower chance of getting admitted?

Hi Antarius. Glad to see you still here. Am just popping in to support current applicants. DS was an ED admit in Dec 2003. Hard to believe how time flies.

It’s just a fact that 14 days and 3 hours from now, I will be crying no matter what

Got my decision today
Decision: Accepted!!! (Questbridge)

Objective:

•ACT (breakdown): 35 (34E,35M,35R,35S,10E)
•SAT II (place score in parentheses): Math level 2: 750; Chemistry: 700 (These could probably have been better)
•Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.88/4.00

•AP (place score in parentheses): Calculus AB/BC (5,5) APUSH (5) AP Chinese Language (5) AP Chemistry (3) AP Spanish Language (3)
•IB (place score in parentheses): N/A
•Senior Year Course Load: AP Biology, AP Composition and Literature, Honors Gov/Econ, Honors Brief Calc, some electives (took all the honors/AP classes available sophomore/junior year, so senior year is a bit of a break for me )

Subjective:

•Teacher Recommendations: Waived (FERPA)
•Counselor Rec: Waived (FERPA)
•Additional Rec: N/A
•Interview: N/A

Other
•State (if domestic applicant): AZ
•Country (if international applicant): USA
•School Type: Large, fairly new public school
•Ethnicity: Asian
•Gender: Male
•Income Bracket: ~25K
•Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation college

Reflection
•Strengths: SAT/ACT?
•Weaknesses: ECs for sure. I honestly did not get into most of them until late sophomore/junior year and I’m an introverted person in general, so it’s harder for me to motivate myself to get involved in something unless I really care about it.
•Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Wrote a solid Why Rice essay and Common App Essay
•Where else you are applying or have already applied: Rejected from all other Questbridge schools I applied to (Stanford, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, UPenn, Brown, Dartmouth) Accepted University of Arizona Honors College.

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I’M DONE SO EARLY ON IN THE PROCESS!!! Rice is an amazing school and I’m absolutely ecstatic to be able to go, despite my shortcomings at the other schools I applied to. It’s true-the school you eventually end up being accepted to will be the school you fall in love with, and I’m already starting to experience it before I’ve even set foot on campus. I’m absolutely grateful for the opportunity and hope to see all of you next fall. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!

@NIGHTLOCK. That is so awesome.

I love seeing Questbridge applicants around CC. Excellent program.
Enjoy your time at Rice and do not mourn over getting rejected from the others. RICE >>>

Were you matched at all or just a finalist?

Take care!

@Kokko2k15 Thanks :)! Don’t worry, I know I will have a great time at Rice! And yes, I was matched to Rice via the National College Match process.

Congrats @NIGHTLOCK and welcome to Rice!
