Hi!
I have been accepted to the Rice Class of 2023 and am deciding between Rice & UCLA. I am pretty much undecided at the moment, but can most see myself majoring in Environmental Policy. However, Rice doesn’t have any major like that and the only environmental major they have is Environmental Science or Engineering which I do not believe matches my interest. I would be more interested in the Environmental Studies minor, possibly with a Political Science major. I am having trouble finding information about Rice’s environmental resources – is it well equipped for an education in the field I am looking for? Thank you all so much!

Hi! Thanks for the response! I’m not interested in environmental engineering & the technical side of it as much as policy. I’m having trouble deciding since they are such opposites. I love Rice’s small class sizes & individualized support but feel as if UCLA offers a more well rounded college experience in terms of school spirit and the social scene. LA’s location and UCLA’s active political presence on campus appeals to me more but I am worried I will get lost in the thousands of students so far as registration and accessibility to professors and resources. Thank you!
What better place than Houston to study ES? With energy companies, NASA, Rice, Baker Institute, a city in dire need of better environmental policies and a state in strict denial of climate change, you should have no shortage of leads and opportunities in establishing career as an environmental scientist/activist.
