Does not see a thread so I’ll start one…
Applying to Computer Science major in the School of Engineering.
Currently I’m a freshman in a US News Top 25 U. I did not apply to Rice for freshman admission and now I kind of regret it
Good luck to everyone!
I study in a top 10 U in Australia. Failed to transfer last year while in China.
Reapplying this year intending to study Mechanical Engineering.
Any more info about you?
@Miyamoto I’m also from China So you have already transferred once from the university in China to your current school?
Apply to Chemistry in Wiess although it doesn’t allow majors in common app
Right. The latter has a much better grading system. With a 75-84 you get an A, and an 85+ an A+.
so wierd! the Rice transfer thread is almost dead compared to other schools. I wanted to have discussion like the other schools to keep us occupied until decision day but I guess not this year hahah. Are there less people applying this year?
Anywho applying to be sophmore as CS major
I think Rice is definitely not the most popular choice and it accepts so tiny amount of students each year, maybe that’s the reason
Is it true that Rice only accepts 30~ students since last year and the acceptance rate drops to 3%? I applied this year and I’m loosing my hope now…

50 admitted out of 431 transfer applicants last year. 11%
@newbee18 Sophomore CS!
Woot Woot!!! :-h
Btw what did you guys put in the box?
I put a interesting demo of organic synthesis (chem major, although we are not allowed to choose major in application)
That’s cool. I just put a picture of the world with a passport on it haha. It has nothing to do with my major but personally I love traveling.
That also works. It just says “something appeals to u.” Good luck dude!
Hey guys there’s been no discussion lately. How about we share what we love about rice and few brief reasons we decided to apply?
@newbee18 I heard they were good in math and had some nice physics resources (being in Houston, with NASA and all).
I also have a friend that lives in TX that I would be able to visit, lol.
What made you apply?
@eyo777 The whole campus environment. There’s a warm and inclusive feeling to it. An atmosphere where you don’t feel left out. What i mean is that in researching Rice I never once had the feeling of “Stereotypes” as in hierachy-wise. Let’s just say HS sucked haha. I also love the fact that it doesn’t have a Greek system since I have no interest in frats or sors. their housing system can allow me to include myself in the student body. Also, its in texas ive lived here all my life and love it. Most ppl dont like the weather but I love it. I love the diversity(all aspects). I also read a lot on the CS homepage and they sold me in haha. The school is just perfect and I have never had doubts about it.
@newbee18 That’s great! Definitely sounds like a good fit for you
I applied to a few schools, though I wouldn’t say Rice is my first choice (particularly because I’m looking for frosty winters after living in FL my whole life, lol).
I like all the schools I applied to in one way or another though, so we will see.
Good luck to you, though! I hope you get in!
Anyone know when decisions will be out?
