Rice Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@Ashtash on the portal below the list of materials received there’s a place where you can upload stuff. click the drop down menu and chose “the box” or something like that and then upload your item

@CriedEmerson chemical engineering, gpa is not stellar, 3.71 (two Bs), but imo excellent ECs. midterm report is straight A/A+s with 19 units.

you?

What I need to do is totally forget about this now, and just focus on other things. Anyone with me?

@CriedEmerson haha, yes. all of our decisions come out in April or later so we should just focus on school! at least that’s what i’m trying to do for now even if its kinda unsuccessful lol

pretty much the end of april which is like may, so ya. no point in worrying

@transferrrrrrcc I am coming from hcc, no ec’s, never took in person classes (except one) so dunno how lors are, also made a billion mistakes on my app

not really hopeful at this point

man I should sleep

@transferrrrrrcc hey I’m chemical engineering freshman too, 3.85 gpa, 1530 sat, decent EC and good essays imo,
Applied ED last year and was rejected

Do you think applying again makes you more likely to get in? It’s certainly an indicator of demonstrated interest…

I know Rice tracks demonstrated interest, so it definitely wouldn’t hurt an applicant if they’ve already applied. I dont know how much it would help though

@jimothy12 omg! thats my SAT score too hahaha.

Who here is from houston?

Me! Are you?

I’m from Houston too! Who here is trying to transfer from a community college?

Houston CC kid here  You go to HCC?

i am but from a california cc!

I go to ACC (Alvin Community College). It’s about a 30 minute drive from Houston though

I’m a freshman at UT. Anyone else?

If anyone could chance me, that would be great. I am unaware of how competitive Managerial Studies is. In addition to the info below, I have 3 of the best recommendation letters possible (Head of Econ Department, Admissions Counselor, and an alum of Rice).

Overall GPA: 3.74
Major: Managerial Studies
Total Hours: 72
Relevant Extracurricular: Pi Theta Kappa (Academic Org) and another Honor Society for academics
Relevant Honors/Awards: Deans list or Presidents list every semester
Work: Marketing agent for an apartment complex
HS GPA: 3.56
SAT: 1000

Well, since you already applied, I suppose the best thing is to wait and see! But Rice has a holistic admissions process, which takes the predictability of admissions out of it. The SAT is a bit lower than their averages, but then again I’m not sure how Managerial Studies admissions are carried out - perhaps they focus more on your actual work experience, which seems to be very good in your case. I’d suggest not stressing too much and just relaxing until decisions come out!
