Rice Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

there’s a chance it may come out on a tuesday as well, as RD decisions came out on a Tuesday this year

Hmm, interesting point!

2018: regular decision 3/23/18 (Friday) transfers, 4/26/18 (Thursday)

2017: regular decision 3/24/17 (Friday) transfers, 5/5/17 (Friday)

this year, 3/26 (Tuesday) for regular…

Hey guys! Anyone else’s portal layout change? Mine now lists Rice University, Undergraduate Admission, Home, Request Info, Visit, Apply, Academics, Student Life, Affordability at the top. Probably doesn’t mean anything but it surprised me when I logged in tonight.

@“College? Nah…” Mine says that too. Although, I feel like it’s always been there. However, I’m not sure because I almost always look at my portal on my phone instead of my laptop

Yeah, I didn’t think it meant something but it def changed. I’m hoping we get decisions this week.

Can someone send me a screenshot? Mine didn’t change!

Oh, never mind! Are you talking about the blue bar at the very top? I’ve been logging in these past few weeks and it’s always been like that. How was it for you before?

Well I don’t know anything about a blue bar…but honestly none of this means anything haha sorry to set us on a wild goose chase…What time of day have decisions come out previous years? And did people get emails in advance?

I don’t think they got emails in advance… and here’s the data for the past two years:

2018: regular decision 3/23/18 (Friday) transfers, 4/26/18 (Thursday)

2017: regular decision 3/24/17 (Friday) transfers, 5/5/17 (Friday)

this year, 3/26 (Tuesday) for regular…

My prediction is May 7, Tuesday!

I think decisions have usually come out around noon in the past

I’ll be so surprised if i get in

“Those offered admission as transfer students typically have a GPA of 3.5 or better.” Do you guys think that this is a low ball and that it is much higher of a GPA for admitted transfer students?

I think that they accept people with below a 3.5. But I think that most acceptances will have at least a 3.8. Even if you have a 4.0 it’s still unlikely for you to get an acceptance.

with schools like Rice a good GPA is basically a requirement, unless you’re really extraordinary. 3.5 probably barely cuts the mark for “average”.

the point of the GPA req is to weed out underqualified students, but that being said im sure there are a few students below 3.5 who are amazing that Rice will take.

@CriedEmerson I don’t understand where this assumption that they release the transfers on the same day of the week as the regular decision comes from because two years ago they released RD on a friday and transfers came out on a thursday. I think it will be coming out in early may like rice says which could be this week or next but I don’t think there is any correlation between RD and transfer release date.

I would be surprised if any transfer decisions are released before May 1 this year. Rice is probably trying to nail down its yield from the freshman admission offers before releasing transfer decisions. Rice was a bit later than usual in releasing the regular decisions this year so the transfer admissions may lag a bit also. Rice guarantees housing for all incoming students, including transfers. It doesn’t want to have housing overcrowding problems.

Yes, I highly doubt they’ll be released in April! As for the assumption that regular and transfer decisions come out on the same day of the week, that was just me being obsessive and reading detail into everything (seeing Friday as an extension of Thursday)… I think you guys are right! Probably around May 10 or so.

“Rice is probably trying to nail down its yield from the freshman admission offers”

Will they be able to get ahold of that figure immediately after May 1st?

wow I didn’t know Rice guarantees housing for all students!

Rice guarantees housing for 3 out of 4 years. All incoming students, including transfers, are placed in on campus housing. Transfers also move in and participate in O Week (orientation week) on campus alongside the incoming freshmen for a week ahead of the date regular classes start.
