The great financial aid status report reminds me a bit of the "likely letters" that were mailed in mid-February to some '12 RD applicants. Thrilling news, but still not quite the official "Approved" message. But, good enough to start daydreaming about the residential colleges while you wait for the official message from the admissions dept.
on Monday.

If you didn't get financial aid (based on the message), I wouldn't jump to any sort of conclusions. The merit aid allocation was raised to 30% this year, and some kids who get turned down for financial aid still get very generous merit awards. I know that.

I wish every one waiting the very best luck. I've heard that the odds of CCers getting in are considerable higher than non-CCers -- you kids really care, and I'm sure it shows
on your applications!

who get merit awards don't get

And I've heard that those on CC tend to have better odds of getting in --

If you got one of the "Congratulations on your admission" financial aid letters, but come next Monday you get rejected/deferred...can you appeal the decision?

It's like they say you're accepted, then "SYKE!..JK we dont want you"

i've talked to a couple of my friends who also did ED rice. This is what i think the messages mean:

You get the "congrats" message followed by a financial aid package: accepted and need financial aid

You get a message saying you don't qualify for financial aid: accepted but you don't need financial aid.

You didn't get a message at all: not sure about this one, leaning towards deferred/rejected =(

all three of these situations have happened among my friends and i.

i think the financial info was just sent to everyone who got into rice and made under the 60,000 or 80,000 threshold...

I don't think this is accurate, i got the award letter w/ cash , congrats on admission, etc..and my parents make over 80k for sure.

Ottoline, do you remember if the financial aid status letters said "Congratulations on your admission to Rice University!"? Because it seems like that phrase would throw it off the 'likely letter' status.

So what is the consensus so far? That if you applied for financial aid and received a Financial Aid Reward Letter (regardless of the content), you've been accepted to Rice?

soniya it IS NOT an email. It's after you log into Rice's webcheck with your pin and ID and then go into the financial aid section. There should be three options as links you can click in that section "Admission Status/Main Page Admission Requirements Financial Aid Award Letter "

i think so. If you applied for aid and received NO letter, that's probably not good news. If you got A letter, especially one that SAID congratulations, then you have (95% SURE) been accepted into RICE!!!

Hey guys. Ive been reading all these ED things aobut Rice. I am a Questbridge applicant and somehow I never got the message about a login ID or anything. How am I supposed to find out?

quick question. i got in ED and am really pumped. i don't qualify for financial aid and didn't apply for it but am hoping to be one of the 30% of the kids who gets a merit scholarship. when and how do we find out if we get a merit scholarship?
