rice interview

ackk i have an interview on the 29th.... freaking scared to death. my interviewer's name was shirin. she said it was going to be informal. and im all paranoid !! been trying to think of questions to ask and been practicing answering typical interview questions....... and i end up rambling when im pracitcing my answers. blehghg

did anyone have the same interviewer as me by any chance?

my friends had diff interviewers and i got diff responses from them (from scary to relaxing to laid back to really bad).
eeek!!

btw i live in houston tx so was wondering if anyone had the same interviewer as me.

Hey... it's no big deal. Just calm down and enjoy it. I've interviewed students for my alma mater (Carnegie Mellon), and I'm just trying to find out a little more about the applicant and there to answer questions. When I interview I look to see if the applicant has an enthusiasm for something.

Here's a great thread written by an interviewer for Tufts that might be helpful:

Good luck!

don't worry too much about it. My interviewer just asked questions about ex-activities, my daily schedule, and what I like to do for fun.

Also, he asked me to come up with a plan to change the community to see how well I can plan out my arguments.

wow thanks guys :)

yeah dont worry at all, im from houston, my interview was rather informal. The main thing we talked about was about the crazy things that happend on campus, especially at parties. We traded lots of stories and whatnot. I think her goal was to see if i was "human" and had a life that did not just consist of staying in my room and studying. Probably to see, what I would be able to contribute to Rice's social life etc.

My interviewer spent nearly the entire time trying to convince me to go to Rice. I guess he did a good job!

dont worry!! You'll do fine!
Just relax. Actually one of the first things they say to you is: "This is a very informal interview."

So just relax...and try to keep the converstaion going :)

Good luck!

Its really not that bad. I just had my Rice (first) interview, and it went amazingly well. My interviewer was a fatherly Caucasian CEO guy who was straight up from Texas, and I was afraid that we'd be so different (asian girl from Seattle suburbs), itd be hard to find 'middle-ground', but it really turned out well. He just wanted to know what I liked doing, what I find passion for. He asked about my classes and which ones I liked most and why. He asked what books I like to read and if I know my current events (this one caught me off guard). He also wanted to know why I like Rice and which school I'm interested in, what do i want to be in the future, etc etc....all the while trying to sell Rice. He talked a lot about his experiences and life stories, which helped the atmosphere. After a while, the interview gets laid back and you'll feel more comfortable. [interview was a little longer than an hour] No worries, just be yourself.

thanks for all the advice u cc people rock!
anyways i had my interview today and totaly went awesome. think my interviewer saw me as "interesting" :P the only question i got caught off guard by was "current events" (so i vaguely talked about some issue in korea that my parents talked about) and 'what do u do with ur friends'.
sadly i have no social life bc i havent been allowed to (until nowwwww muhuhaha im a second semester senior) so i was like "uh......... i . watch. movies. " and made up other stuff -_-
but overall i was totally wayy to worried bout this! was actualy quite a fun interview, i admit! :D

my rice interview was awesome. make sure to act confident and dont be nervous. they are not out to get you and they are not trying to find your faults to make you not get in. they are trying to notice your high lights. i want to major in biochemistry and cell biology and my interviewer turned out to be that major and was going to med school next year. i want to go to med school. we had a very interesting conversation. she asked me about my extracurriculars, but everything was easy. we talked for almost an hour, which was a good sign. i think that helped me get accepted under early decision. yay!
