Yesterday I got an email from Rice stating that they had not received my midyear report. Coincidentally, I had just turned in the paperwork to the transcript office earlier that day. However, the email said that they had to receive it by March 1, which is next Friday. I'm not sure how long it will take for the staff/my counselor to process and get it in the mail. So my question is, if I miss the deadline by a couple days (i.e. it gets to Rice's office March 2 or 3), will they throw out my application altogether?

No. They recognize that the transcript is out of your control, but March 1 is more than enough time from when your semester ended (or when I believe it must have ended). It does appear though that you dropped the ball in asking so late. If Rice does not receive it in time, they will likely contact your counselor. But do ask your counselor to get on top of it.

Thanks very much. Yeah, my first semester ended in December and transcripts were available after Winter break in mid January, so I’m kicking myself for not getting it done earlier. Guess it just slipped my mind.

In order to move things along, I suggest that you do two things.

Forward the email from Rice to your guidance counselor, with a forwarding message expressing your regret that your delay may create time pressures for him or her.

Respond to Rice’s email immediately and tell them that the mid-year report is on its way.

Will do. Thanks.
