"The quality of Rice's academic life and the Residential College System are heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What personal perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice? "

I honestly have no idea how to approach this essay. My common app essay already discusses my background, so would I use this to describe a different aspect of it, such as growing up in poverty/in a Hispanic household, and how it's shaped my perspectives?

For example, I would discuss how I was embarrassed of my father being a gardener but when he got injured, I decided to go to work with him after school and on the weekends to help him with strenuous work. Since we couldn't afford medical care, I figured this was the only way to help him. I would discuss how it made me appreciate and be proud of my roots and taught me the value of hard work and to never make excuses, and that it made me ashamed that I was ever embarrassed.

Would this really be a "perspective" or are they looking for something more along the lines of interests and quirks? I feel like I'm not interpreting the question right, any help is appreciated, thanks!
