Rice reputation - Eastern Ivy graduate schools.

Hi!

I am a Rice applicant who just sent in my app(yay).

I am planning on going to graduate school, probably on the eastern coast since I live there. I don't see myself staying in south for so long time as to go to graduate school there.

So, here is my question. When I tell people here in the eastern coast that I apply to Rice, many people even don't know what it is or it's a good school. I don't necessarily care about it that much. But if it comes to graduate school admission officers, yeah I'd care.

Would eastern Ivy graduate school admission officers recognize that Rice is a very competitive, renowned school? Would they prefer other eastern Ivies or well-known schools? I know it's really up to applicants themselves in many cases than what colleges they went to. Still, I do believe school name can be an important factor.

Well, I hope I will get into Rice and people in the eastern coast would recognize Rice one day!

“Eastern” coast? Really?

In a word, yes.

As opposed to ‘Western Ivy league schools’?

Guys… come on. Lala, you’re wrong to think that Rice isn’t well known on the East Coast; it is, especially among grad school admission offices.

Can’t speak for grad schools in general, but Rice is very highly regarded at the top medical schools throughout the country.
