Has anyone heard anything about the SOAR program for this year? (Diversity Fly In Program at Rice)
It was cancelled last year due to Covid.
It is still on this year. My son just got invited to it.
Good to know. Please post details about the program format this year and the invitation.
How did your son got invited - was it through an application? Sorry, new at this process.
I just got invited as well, I’m not sure how, I did not fill out an application or anything. If anybody has attended this program before, how many people get invited? Do my admissions chances get any better by being invited and attending?
My daughter was invited, but looks like it’s virtual. Disappointing, she was hoping it would be in person.
Rice puts enormous emphasis on broadening its applicant pool and gives large preferences to traditionally disadvantaged groups in its admissions process. Some may like that and some may not, but it’s how Rice does business. Typically in the past, SOAR attendance was tantamount to admission, though we don’t yet know if that will continue to be the case for a virtual event.
It’s surprising to me that it’s a two day event Oct. 3-4th. So, I’m assuming they’d have to skip school to attend virtually. I haven’t seen an agenda.
Rice is being very cautious with the Covid resurgence in Texas. There are very few large gatherings on campus. I assume Rice will try to replicate the two day in person event in a virtual format to give the students a glimpse of life outside the classroom.
Is it selective. Did people get accepted ultimately?
