I’m interested in transferring to Rice. I’m currently at another selective school but want to study Business. Can I transfer for the second sem of freshman year? The website says you need 12 credits, does that mean at the time of transferring or at the time of the app. I will have 12 credits by the end of this summer.
I know it’s early on but I’m just wondering. I need help interpreting the website, not why I want to transfer.
Thanks
I read it as 12 hours with a 3.2 and the following b4 November 1. You can call or email and verify - but that’s how I read it.
Just know - they accepted 46 of 1227 students per the most recent CDS. I’d assume most come with two years - and some will be athletes - so good luck but expect long odds. Hopefully you’ve gotten to know your profs enough in this month you’ve been at school - as you need two to write you a letter.

Thank you. Follow up,
The website says that if you have completed over 12 credits you must apply as a transfer, if not then as a first year. Since I haven’t actually completed/earned 12 credits, could I apply as a first year?
“If a student has earned 12 or more semester hours of credit since completing high school (or earning an equivalent), they must apply as a transfer.”
Yes - 12 or more. That’s not the same as over 12. That’s 12, 13, 14.
So you will be a transfer but you will need all that above - including LORs from two profs.
That’s how it reads. You should call and speak with a transfer advisor.
“I read it as 12 hours with a 3.2 and the following b4 November 1.”
That contradicts what was said here. I will not have completed 12 credits by Nov 1. I will be in the process of it and will not have a GPA.
What does this mean? Do you mean by the end of this semester?
Did you apply to Rice last year as a HS senior?
Contact Rice admissions and ask your questions. My sense is you will be a transfer, because you will have >12 credits by the time you enroll in Rice. But maybe they go by the time of application, so call and ask. Today. Find Your Admission Counselor

Sorry I meant to say semester (fall) instead of summer. I didn’t not apply to rice last year.

Anyway, Rice will have transfer advisors and they should be the ones answering your questions.
Best of luck to you.
