Rice transfer question

I know that Rice has a unique housing situation, where all incoming freshman are put into a specific "house" correct? Or is that not quite how it works? With that said, what's the deal for transfers? Are they also put in a house? Are they guaranteed housing? I had trouble finding this in some google searches, which is why I'm here!

Transfers are NOT guaranteed housing. if they can fit you in, they give you space.

Do you know if there is usually space or not? I feel like if I transferred, I wouldn’t feel like part of the community if I lived off campus.

in this upcoming year, transfers who are given housing will be living in a separate building. in the future its hard to tell, with the increase in enrollment it is unlikely that hosing will be easy

You still do the O-week orientation on campus in the res colleges and get that intense week of bonding, even as a transfer student. There’s a lot of housing near campus, (both my kids lived/live within walking distance of campus), and even off-campus you can eat/hangout/play sports etc. with your res college buddies. You might want to search for old posts about transferring, but the things I’ve read here, and what my kids have said, lead me to believe that transfer students quickly become part of the community and feel very much welcomed into the social world.

[edit: at many colleges the students stick with others in the same year (seniors hang with senior, juniors with juniors), whereas at Rice it’s more Colleges hang with Colleges- although, of course you have friends in other colleges!). As a transfer student, you are welcomed as a new member of your college, just as if you were an incoming freshman - some of whom do live off-campus - so you aren’t an outsider as you might be when entering the social scene of other universities. The res colleges are expecting you, looking forward to welcoming you and making you a part of the community.]

Hey thanks for the response anxiousmom, that’s very reassuring. Well now I just have to get in!
