Rice Transfer Students 2020

Hi everyone! I wanted to make a thread for any transfer students who are applying to Rice for this fall semester. Any questions, probability/chances, advice, etc, literally anything related to the process is fine! I personally know my chances are extremely low due to my situation but I would love to see how other people are doing and have people help each other out

Hi. I believe my chances are also low and don’t really know what to expect.

I am applying as a transfer to Mechanical Engineering

I am international and had a 94.2/100 GPA (Translates to a 3.8-3.9)
Top 10% GPA
1420 SAT
110 TOEFL
Semester Abroad at Notre Dame
Recommendation from a top professor at Notre Dame and my home university
Summer Job
Trilingual
Taught english to poor universities in Mexico

I don’t know how strong my written portion is.

Bumping this so duplicate threads aren’t competing. Deleting the duplicate thread.

Does anyone know if the decisions will be delayed this year due to COVID-19?

I think another month or so. If I do somehow manage to get accepted, registering for classes will be rough.
Transfer Students: “Notification of the admission decisions are made on a rolling basis between May 1 and June 1.” https://ga.rice.edu/undergraduate-students/academic-policies-procedures/admission/#text

Transfers will register for classes along with other incoming students during Orientation Week (O Week) in the fall.

Would y’all mind commenting whenever you get your decision? That way other students know when to expect a decision. I will let y’all know whether I get in or not and my stats just for future reference for other students. Good luck everyone!

expecting a decision 5/3 based on last year’s thread

@transfer2020dab That’s what I think too! I contacted the admissions office and was told they do not anticipate any delays due to COVID-19.

native houstonian applying from a t20 lac. College gpa: 3.84 with a midterm report of 4.0. mediocre highschool with a 3.68 uw and only in the top 25% (all my cs and bs were in regular classes freshman year). fives on seven AP tests. 1540 SAT, 35 ACT, 770 Bio, 740 Math II. reason I want to transfer to rice is very specific. great relationship with professors so my rec letters are good. good demonstrated interest because I met with a counselor and answered personal emails by her. good ecs. i did well creating a solid rice-specific narrative in my application, so i’m confident i’ll atleast get waitlisted.

alright boys we expecting a decision tomorrow?

Tomorrow? I thought we had to wait until May ?

called them and they said mid-april to june 1st. this was around a week ago.

I had no idea. Thanks for sharing!

Does Rice release decisions in waves or on one single day?

waves, I think

Last year it was 5/2 I think. It was in one wave. I think it could be this Thursday…but who knows.

Has anybody heard anything?

Rice started going to the waitlist for incoming freshman on 4/27. Maybe Rice will also move up the transfer decisions a bit too.
