Rice tuition fees

Is the tuition fees of $23,310 mentioned fixed or does in vary depending on the number of credit hours taken in the year ? I emailed the university and am waiting for a response. Thanks for your response.

didnt it increase this year to 26, 000 dollars? i think it is fixed btw

jjjjj, you're right: the class entering this august will be paying 26k (up from ~23)

still havent got my aid letter....

i heard the tuitiopn will increase gradually and future entering classes will need to pay more.

Yeah, the current president doesn't really feel that having Rice cost significantly less than its competitors is that important.

Heh, he's wrong, thats one of the major reason's it's my first choice college at the moment (I'm only a rising senior though). If it goes up in price then its even with Emory, WUSTL and many other top tier colleges that cost a ton, especially for a family that just barely doesn't qualify for any need aid.

No, the president has said that they plan to price Rice at about $25,000 less (over the 4 years), than other "peer" institutions. Although the tuition has risen substantially for incoming freshman, it is a fairly small increase for continuing students.

My son is a junior -- full time tuition is full time tuition, no matter how many credits you take -- as long as you are a full time student. Trust me -- I write the checks.

but yes tuition goes up every year. tuition increased 14% this year, but this happens at every school.

I'm considering Rice (currently a junior) only because I heard it's cheap for a prestigious school.
How cheap is it really? Tuition + other expenses.
How much do they give for financial aid (grants)?

is it possible to graduate in 3 yrs :D? as a biomed engineering major?

thinks about saving $26K+

It depends on how many AP credits you come in with, and if you take summer classes. This question could better be answered by the college.

from what i understand, you pay how much it is when you enter for all 4 years (or in arch or music, 5 years) so for kids starting in 2005, they'll pay 23K times 4, not 23K + 26K + . . .
also when my dad was there he talked to the director of admissions and he said they took the big jump up this year but that theyre not planning on raising it by much after that. so basically the only losers are the class entering this fall. yay me.

and to answer ultima... once you add up, say princeton's tuition, books, r&b, expenses, whatever, you get to about 48K, and at rice that figure is more like 39K. also the cost of living in houston is significantly lower than other major cities like boston, new york, chicago, LA, etc.

anndd one more thing not to forget... all colleges should be going up by at least $1000 total each year cause of inflation. can't forget good old inflation :) i think it's at 3% right now in the US

Apollo1331 -- BIOENGINEERING AT RICE -- Could be REALLY tough, if not impossible. Unless something has changed in the last year, there are 94 credits in the bioengineering program and 134 credits to graduate. There are required 200 Level, 300 Level and 400 Level courses, so you would have to start your "freshman" year at the 200 Level in your core courses in bioengineering. Even if you have a HUGE number of AP credits, they might not fit the Distribution Requirements for Rice. It would be bioengineering 24/7. These are demanding courses with big out-of-classroom demands and no easy As. I don't think you will have one minute to enjoy college life -- do you really want to do that to yourself?

i was thinking of double major with bioengineering as one.. 4 yrs obv. :( looks like thats impossible

yea bioengeneering is supposed to be a hard major (im split bewteen it and biochem)...double major in a language( i will double in french) i hear that is popular but i wouldnt recommend two sciences unless you want no life at all.

stupid question inc!

when you refer to bioengineering is that the same thing as biomedical engineering?
