Probably very soon, hopefully they give some small goody haha
A t-shirt or bumper sticker would be nice!! We want to show our Rice pride!
Hey I have a few questions if anyone would be willing to answer!
On Esther, in the award history, are all the numbers they give estimated until we send the FASFA?
It says I received a Rice Grant of 45,000 and a work study of 2,500. This just seems crazy to me…is this accurate? I thought tuition was 41,000 and I received a grant larger than tuition? What is going on! I don’t know if I should be extremely excited or confused. Anyone with help, thank you!!!
@wwh12210 If you’re on campus, room and board costs an additional $13-14k so Rice probably calculated that into your financial aid
Got the letter in the mail today, no free t-shirt Oh well haha
Does anyone know what the ED acceptance rate was?
@Swinter
I think last year it was around 20%, it lowers a bit every year I think.
I dont know if this question applies here because I was matched with Rice through questbridge. But we all have to fill out an admission reply form. Does anyone who was accepted have the question on the form: Of the schools to which you were admitted, what was your second choice college/university? If so, what did you put for it?
I put my second choice? It’s just asking what it literally says.
@sarangooL but I was not admitted to any other schools
@Pondsational I put UChicago, but isn’t there an option where you can say you weren’t admitted to any other schools? If not, you can leave it blank probably?
There should be an option that says Rice was the only place you were admitted, I’m pretty sure I remember seeing that.
I too, wasnt admitted anywhere besides rice, and I just put my second choice school, regardless of whether I was admitted or not. I emailed my alumni interviewer and he said that’s what I should do. It’s just for research purposes so they can see what their competition is and stuff like that. They wont rescind your admission or anything if they find out you werent actually admitted to the school you put…
I’m almost positive there is an option to put only Rice, but I suppose if the interviewer said it’s ok than whatever.
To clear up any confusion, the Admission Reply Form is the one that asks what your second choice university was. I directly contacted an associate director of admission about this matter and she told me that if Rice was the only school I was admitted to then I can just leave that field blank.
The Confirmation of Withdrawal of Applications to Other Colleges form has an actual option that you can pick that says you didn’t apply to any other university.
Ah okay, I guess I got those 2 confused
Hey guys so far it looks like I’ll be the only kid from my school going to Rice as I don’t know of anyone applying RD. If any of you guys are interested in being friends PM me your number or snapchat or something and we can talk! (hope this doesn’t sound too creepy haha)

Other
-State: TX
-School Type: Public
-Ethnicity: Mexican-American
-Gender: M
-Income Bracket: ~$45,000
-Hooks: First generation, low income/high achiever, not white, strong overall
Reflection
-Strengths: My test scores, I chose just the right amount of extracurriculars so that I’m not overstretched, Questbridge Finalist status
-Weaknesses: Not a lot of leadership positions, SAT I isn’t almost perfect only decent
-Why was I accepted?: I honestly have no idea other than those reasons stated above. A miracle perhaps?
-Where else did I apply: Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Williams, Columbia, Notre Dame; I also had Baylor and UT-Austin applications on standby in case Questbridge didn’t pan out
Comments: I truly believe that my journey has been blessed by God himself and even though Rice wasn’t my 1st choice, researching it has led me to start getting excited about going there. I hope to see as many of you as possible there in August or April!!!
hey guys! is there a facebook page for admitted/attending students? or could someone make one so we can start to get to know each other haha
