Reflection

•Strengths: I am good at writing sad, gay essays and using lots of metaphors. I guess my scores were ok but idk if
they were Rice worthy

•Weaknesses: I would say everything tbh, but really I was lacking volunteer work and honors/awards

•Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have absolutely no idea honestly. There were so many other applicants that seem more worthy of acceptance, but I’m not complaining. I cried when I found out. Maybe it was because my CommonApp essay was so sad and gay. and i put in my own artwork for the infamous box.

•Where else you are applying or have already applied: UT Austin, Texas A&M- Commerce

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Your essays should be personal. They need to have every bit of you in them as possible. If its about the school, make it about you. Talk as if you’re writing a story, not an essay. They seem to love that. Cry everyday until you get your letter.

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: You don’t need near perfect scores to get in! The holistic review process really worked for me I’d say, so there is hope out there for those of you who think your scores aren’t up to par with everyone else on here.

Congratulations to all of you who got accepted in the ED at Rice.

If any one of you who got Merit aid/scholarship (not applied FSFSA) for this year as part of the ED acceptance offer, can you share what amount Rice offers. Try to get a feel for the realistic amount from Rice for Merit.

It appears from Rice web site, they do not give full tuition. The Trustee Distinguished & Trustee Diversity gives around $25k. How many students get each of these 2 big awards?

Thanks in advance.

@GoldenRock I received the Barbara Jordan $25K scholarship. Definitely was not expecting something so significant. Did not qualify for any need-based aid as my family’s income bracket is $200K+ and my parents own a business.

@Dreams4ever Thank you so much for your response. Happy to know that you got that Merit scholarship and best wishes to your education in Rice.

Anybody know when we will hear from Rice/Baylor?
