Hi! I’m a junior, looking at getting into Rice. I’ve been researching, and it seems that Rice applicants tend to have outstanding and distinguished extracurriculars - like national or state awards and such. I’ve been committed to a number of clubs(I’m currently in 8), I volunteer a lot, I’m a member of the debate team, I participate in my local religious institution, played clarinet for several years and learned piano, have a black belt, and I’ve entered quite a few competitions(Debate, Scholastic, UIL, JFK Essay) but haven’t won many great awards. Do you think this lowers my chance of being accepted to Rice? I have an SAT score and GPA close to the 75th percentile of Rice accepted applicants as well. Thank you!!!
You should be fine. Focus on why Rice is the right fit for you and let that shine through in your application.
For Rice or any college application you need to focus on what you HAVE done not what you haven’t done.
