This is terrible! It makes the week go by so slowly… How is it only Tuesday?? Hopefully, they will be released tomorrow.
oh boo hooo, college isn’t giving me an exact admissions notification date, waaaa waaaaa. What a terrible university! totes done with Rice???
@Ctesiphon Some of us need to make travel arrangements for Easter/Spring break, if we plan on visiting schools. The more advanced notice we get, the better.
I completely understand. I suppose it truly is better for this elite private university to release their admissions decisions as early as possible so its freshman applicants may create travel arrangements for their various travelling endeavors.
I’m just happy I’m even able to submit an application to a school like Rice, LOL.
@Ctesiphon yeah, I’m not sorry about complaining. It is extremely inconsiderate to people who would have to make travel arrangements. I’m from Boston…Houston isn’t exactly a hop and a skip away. And, it’s pretty inconsiderate in general, too. It’s disruptive to the school day and makes people feel generally anxious. I don’t even care if they would make the day April 1, I just want a concrete date.
I completely understand. Many of the applicants to Rice (and other elite schools who have the nerve to not release decision dates) must create travel arrangements and other leisurely affairs and will thus be deterred from viewing their Rice University admission decision on time. Universities that act in such a wanton manner have no place in the civilized world.
At least I don’t have to be anxious about whether or not I’ll be able to eat tonight, or have clean water.
I hope I get in!
there’s no need to be this scathing lmao this is a discussion board about Rice/RD after all
I was just looking through RD class of 2018 and found out that first person who posted on a thread was around 6:35pm cst. we should prob wait til 5 to 530 cst
In 2013, Rice announced on March 26. You need to chill a bit because that’s two days from now, and you may need to wait longer than that. Ivy day, by comparison, is March 31!
Our spring break has passed already. Two years ago, our son missed a lot of school in April, and it was expensive to buy tickets last minute. But it was worth it!
@Ctesiphon You’re being unnecessarily salty imo. It’s great that you could care less about when Rice releases decisions, but that doesn’t mean you have to put down others who do.
@Ctesiphon Is there a reason you need to be so rude? Just because someone somewhere has a more difficult life than I do does not mean that I have no right to complain about anything. By your own logic, you shouldn’t be complaining about my complaints, because somewhere in Africa people aren’t eating tonight!
@Ctesiphon Um… so you’re kind of being a jerk? I assume that you’re not coming from a place that has the luxury to do stuff like actually visit the colleges you’re accepted to, but that’s not a reason to be so rude towards anybody who wants to.
And seriously, I’m nowhere near able to afford to fly to Houston for a college visit, but I really want decisions to come out soon as well.
Qwerty, I hear you. Two years ago, we had to revisit schools in Boston, and we are from Texas. I, too, wish they would announce a firm date, but maybe they don’t have one.
@chonladoo the time stamps aren’t always accurate. I know this because for one of my early schools, we all noticed that people had heard at 2 pm (according to CC) despite the fact that decisions were supposed to be posted at 5pm, but we later confirmed with a moderator that pre a certain date, the time stamps were all messed up because of time zones.
My counselor called Rice and told me they said the decisions would come out on Friday, but they are still going to tell people “by April 1st.”
A part of me hopes they decide to release sooner… But glad to have a date!
I have repetitively said that I understand your college visiting and vacationing woes. It is indeed difficult to schedule such leisurely endeavors in April, especially when we are being given such short notice by these elite private universities to which we have applied.
I have seen people say that this Rice admissions dilemma was “anti-climactic”, others have said it is “extremely frustrating”, as another member does not desire to be on his or her computer to check the status at 5PM every day. Another person critiqued another colleges admissions process on this thread as “extremely cruel”, and another member decided she was not going to consider Rice anymore–“not wasting my money & time on rice” because of the delayed admissions decisions.
I am having trouble telling if y’all are being hyperbolic or if you actually believe what you are saying. Complaining about it does absolutely nothing. My hope is that my complaints will yield results, since I have this thread bookmarked and I am exhausted of receiving heaps of notifications on this thread because you are all tired of waiting for a decision whose date has not been released by the university. I have applied to several other universities who have not given a clear date on when they are releasing decisions but their threads are not being endlessly spammed by people checking their admissions portals at a set time each night and then unleashing waves of melancholy posts lamenting how the decisions were not released that day.
Indeed, I do hope that the decisions are released soon so that this thread may return to the serenity it was before this tumultuous period of vacation-planning arrived. I sincerely hope that everyone on this Rice University RD Class of 2019 thread will be able to book their necessary flights and plan proper excursions and family meet-ups. I suppose kids from the other universities I’ve applied to simply aren’t going on vacation? Or are they just not complaining on the thread?
Good luck on the decisions, whenever they come out!
You’re going to need a good source if people are going to believe that.
Not saying you are/aren’t lying, but a lot people come here just to mess with applicants. (When everyone was waiting for UCLA, some guy came on saying that he say they would be posted the next day. They weren’t.)
EDIT: Directed at post saying Friday.
Goddammit. That’s the same day that CMU and Tufts might release. Friday’s clearly going to be a wonderful day.
It is nice to know a date that’s a bit more than speculation though.
Does anyone have the link to the CO2018 decisions for RD? I’d like to read up and see what kinds of people got in to pass the time.
JHU is also releasing decisions on Friday…nooo…for the sake of my sanity, I’m going to hope that your counselor is wrong
