I tried to post the decision when I found out, but the website lagged so much I guess it didn’t get through.
Did anyone else get a travel grant? Today was a great day after getting accepted to Stanford and Rice!
Crazy how a waitlist at a school like Rice felt like an achievement to me. Congrats to all of the admits, Rice is an amazing school.
Do y’all know if parents can accompany the students on their part of the itinerary for Owl Days, or are they made to follow the parent schedule?
Daughter was accepted out of NJ. Week started out bad with a waitlist to Wellesley, Haverford, and Bryn Mawr, Then accepted to Emory oxford and Rice. Now how to afford to get out to Houston. Rice is a perfect fit for her she didn’t want a huge school.
How many people usually get off the waitlist??
@heybluebear You can see the Common Data Set by year for Rice here: http://www.oir.rice.edu/Common_Data_Set/
open the link and Ctrl + F search “wait-listed”
the most recent data shows 4 students admitted off the waitlist
accepted!
Son was waitlisted. Ann Arbor here he comes!
@msmithcollege Did they offer you a travel grant to visit campus? How did they notify you?
S got waitlisted even though he went to VISION. Got accepted to UT Austin, Vanderbilt, Emory and UCLA.
Waiting on Columbia and Harvard.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Rice was first choice.
Congratulations to everyone who got into Rice. You are really going to enjoy your time at Rice!
@DL43516 If you look on the Rice admissions portal, they show a tentative schedule - if I remember correctly, the parents do have a different one
@DL43516 generally I think that universities prefer if parents follow their own schedules so that students can get an accurate understanding of what college is like, including the independence required to be successful. While I’m not 100% sure, I think that your parents might have to follow their own schedule, but you should always email admissions and ask!
@rice2019, that is so scary! That was my fear since my S also went to Visions but I didn’t feel we could count on that. Any thoughts as to why? Was there a drop in his grades? I can’t imagine any other reason. I’m so sorry; at least he has other great options.
S was a bit surprised by being accepted by Rice (with a travel reimbursement) yet denied at USC. It seems so arbitrary but maybe the adcoms know how to pick the right kids for their school. His stats are 4.25 WGPA/3.85UW and a one time sitting 34 ACT. Good leadership and ECs.
He needs to chose b/w Rice, Notre Dame, and BC–very different schools but it’s great that he has such options.
@kuleczka Yes, I got a $400 travel grant. I was notified by e-mail right after my admissions decision came out. However, I don’t think I received any other merit aid, so I don’t know why.
Has anyone got anything about Baylor med school interview yet? When is it coming out?
@realchk I haven’t heard anything about that yet. I’m interested to know as well.
Waitlisted at Stanford, rejected at Rice…oh the mystery of college admissions
