***Rice University RD Class of 2019 Discussion***

Well I just got rejected from WashU so I’m not too positive about Rice…

@FenderFan54 trust me, there is no need to get down on yourself or worry. Each university is looking for different things in applicants, and you may just not have fit WUSTL’s. Rice could still welcome you with open arms; don’t feel bad. You’ve worked extremely hard to get here and you’ve already taken a huge leap by being courageous enough to even apply; we all have. We should all be proud of ourselves regardless of where we get in, because we are taking the extra step and attending college. Have faith.

Although if your test scores/GPA are below the 25%ile for Rice you should expect a rejection. In addition, expect a rejection if you’re not in the top 10% of your high school class.

Nonetheless, if you don’t have such criteria, you have good chances at Rice. I was rejected at WashU and several other schools which I blame on my class rank (I’m in the top 16%, but at schools like Rice/WashU, as much as 90% of their incoming freshman classes were in the top 10% of their HS classes). I regret having decided not to take honors classes in high school when I was in 8th grade, oh such rash, childish decisions we all make!

Admissions are holistic–if you are in the top decile!!! But I imagine most of you are, so good luck this month with Rice. One rejection does not necessarily mean more if you are a fit candidate. Perhaps I may be in that small group of students who weren’t in the top 10% and were also admitted. We all can hope, right!

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”

The fact you are here today is a testament to the incessantly incredible intelligent that you all possess. These forums are inundated with the moist morning dew of intellectual fervor.

@DL43516 Yeah you’re right, thank you for the advice! I guess I was just a little bummed because I kind of liked WUSTL. Just wondering, what did you apply under?

I liked WashU too. I live in St. Louis so I had a chance to visit the campus. It really is an incredible school and is similar to Rice in many aspects, so I’ve heard.

@FenderFan54‌ if you mean major, I applied for English. What about you?

Yeah I did lol! Cool! I applied under Materials Science and Engineering. What’s funny actually is that my current engineering teacher got her electrical engineering degree from Rice! :smile:

@Ctesiphon Yeah I can relate…My SAT is a little below the 25%, I got a 2020 and 25th% is about 2100…hoping I get in though!

I didn’t even submit my SAT, just my ACT. I didn’t take subject tests either lol.

@FenderFan54 Off-topic, but is the “54” in your user name from the first year of the Strat? Just curious . . .

@MrSamford2014 haha yeah, I love fender guitars. :slight_smile: But I also like a few other brands, especially Music Man!

@FenderFan54 I like Fender, too. I’ve got a couple of Leo-era G&Ls–closest I’ll ever get to a pre-CBS Fender!

Good luck with Rice (and the infinitely long Wash U wait list)!

Does anyone know anything about Esther accounts? I want to see if they received my financial aid documents, but I didn’t receive any emails about it.

I haven’t been back here in a while!
I had to cancel my overnight (literally) four hours before I was supposed to be there… snow and Logan airport don’t mix. I’m really bummed about that since I didn’t get a real feel for Rice and I don’t really have much demonstrated interest, but we’ll see.

@Qwerty568 That sucks, sorry :(. By logan do you mean logan Utah?

@FenderFan54 my son is in the same boat as you!

@WaitinginCPA did he apply to Materials Science Engineering as well, or just hear back from WUSTL?

@FenderFan54‌ I mean Logan airport in Boston!

It’s making me nervous that they haven’t officially announced a date…I would hate to have to wait anymore than I have to, this wait is agonizing!!

@FenderFan54 - he applied Bioengineering at Rice, Biomedical Engineering at the other schools.
