For some, Houston traffic could be categorized as an outdoor activity
If is helps, I submitted mine on 12/19 and they waived it yesterday. Maybe it takes time to analyze all documents they receive.
On another note, I believe admissions and financial aid are different departments that are not connected.
I got admitted to a different university early action and my waiver was in review for weeks after that until they got to a decision.
Admissions and Aid are separate at Rice. At this point the FA office has no idea of the status of your application, they are just doing their thing. Hard to not overthink stuff while waiting, I get it.
Interesting overlap. My son took a long look at HMC but ultimately decided not to apply. Personally, I would have preferred he apply to Brown over Penn, but that was a Mom-influenced decision.
Best of luck.
My daughter, for whatever reason, does not share my passion for sports despite my best efforts to indoctrinate her into rooting for all my teams. Maybe I went overboard on that? In any case, although she has no interest in sport management at Rice, I have seen Rice sport management is ranked high and read about the opportunities offered students in sport management. Syracuse is great, but Rice sport management is really impressive as well.
It is, and Riceās addition of a BBA program this fall is very nice. Schools all do their own spin on sports management. I actually really like Miami (OH) and how much crossover it has with the biz school. Falk doesnāt have as much connection with Whitman.
I think itās all going to come down to ROI and just how much Rice and Syracuse diplomas would add to job/salary potential. Maybe in another major they would. But I know a UMich sports management grad doing corporate season ticket account management for an NHL team and a Kennesaw State U doing basically the same job (premium individual season tix) for St. Louisā new soccer team. Itās not like engineering or investment banking where where you got your degree matters a lot. KWIM?
Thanks yours too. DS changed from Penn to Brown in the last week.
You could argue this about most jobsā¦once you get older. Iām an account manager for a car company. We have MBAs like me (at a top 40, not top 20 school), MBAs from diploma mills, college degrees from wherever, and no degrees.
We have Vanderbilts working for no degrees. Itās the reality of life. We all overplay the ranking thing. In the end, those from the higher end schools do better overall but there are no absolutes.
CompSci major but also very interested in double major or minor in digital media / visualization type programs. TX resident now, but CA previously.
In order to get the benefit of the state tuition, UC requires you to live in California for min 3 years. How about Texas? If Texas is like CA, it sucks.
If your son decides to go to UCSD are you now planning on paying the OOS rate?
My son also got accepted to UCSD CS. I think Rice and UCSD CS programs are pretty much in the same ranking. So I originally had a question for you.
I was going to ask you if you were California resident, which school your son would select. But now you are not in the same situation, so you may not be able to answer my questionā¦
In general, he really wanted to narrow down to a smaller list to make a decision. Once he got a list of a few schools he really liked and was familiar with / had visited in the past, he was able to eliminate a few in advance of decisions - thinking he might not get the chance to really visit these schools. Geography/location is a strong criteria for him (not the top, but strong enough).
Anyone know when decisions may come out? Got accepted to UCLA last week and am waiting on Rice (although I probably wonāt end up going to Rice anyways if I got in since Iām a Houston resident and want to leaveš)
I do know what you mean. Having that conversation with my senior all the time. It is all about cost benefit analysis. If you want to hawk tickets, that is a noble profession but you can probably get there going to Michigan or Kenesaw State. No reason to spend the money going to Rice if that is your ambition and you want to save money. If you want to work as a analyst for the Kraft Sports Group, Kroenke Sports, Fenway Sports Group, Legends, Elevate Sports, Wasserman, league offices as well as the apparel companies and enjoy a lucrative white collar job, then a place like Rice will get there. More and more VC firms are buying teams, networks, stadiums etc., and these business focused conglomerates are more likely to hire grads with degrees from places like Rice.
I thought Rice is a 100% need meet college, so it is supposed to be affordable. Am I not right?
What you define as need - and what the college defines as need are often very much at odds with one another.
Many people are surprised and hurt to find out - they donāt qualify. The CSS you have to fill out is certainly not for your advantage. Itās for the school to figure out how to milk you dry.
Rice in particular counts any home equity as cash on hand. So they expect you to have it at your disposal.
So FAFSAās number doesnāt matter even for the 100% meet colleges?
Oh boyā¦ We will find out exactly how much, only if my son gets accepted.
I donāt believe thereās any school that meets 100% demonstrated need that takes the FAFSA. They all, even the publics that meet need (UNC, UVA) require the CSS and they all use different formulas.
If you live in a trailer, are on food stamps, and have 27 kids, you might score a good package.
They always show people with good packagesā¦but Iām not seeing it personally.
My daughter got into Washington & Lee. $81K COA - but they were nice enough to offer the $5500 loan.
Most use CSS
