March 30th 5pm CT
S21 just got email saying 5 pm CST on Tuesday, March 30.
Sooooo, close
@mx510tx my DS21 is also waiting on Rice decision but leading candidate is SMU for CS too (unless gets into Rice). He had no interest in SMU a year ago when we started looking but now he really likes it and itās probably where he will land for CS too.
At least we have some clarity on the decision date. Good luck everyone!
Very interesting. Sounds like a similar path - best of luck with the Rice decision! Letās share notes after the decision.
Well just got rejected from Berkeley, WashU, and was rejected from UCLA a week ago. So hopefully Rice is where God intended for me to go.
Are you from California?
Sorry to hear the rejections.
My son did not even apply to Berkeley.
My wife studied there very short time and she did not like the school.
Unless you are very motivated, competitive and aggressive, you wonāt like it. My son is so mild so we knew itās not his fit.
No, Iām from Texas.
Son just told me he never uploaded an āimageāā¦? Automatic rejection? Just wonderingā¦
Best of luck with Rice! What major are you looking at ?
Our son also rejected from UCLA last week as well, and withdrew from Wash U a few weeks back (he decided that StL just wasnāt where he wanted to be for 4 years), and now UC Berkeley decision is sitting in his inbox right now - heās certain itās a rejection. Pretty much just waiting on Rice at this pointā¦
Economics. Good luck to him too.
Hmmmm. Good question. Assuming you are referring to the rice box thing. I thought it was actually required. How does it display on his portal?
Yep, the rice box image. Iāll check with him tomorrow and find out what the portal says. Not too worried, but what a bummer if that automatically disqualifies him.
My daughter didnāt do it during the common app - she wanted time to find the right thing. She got it in but late but they said it was fine. Who knows It was after Dec 31st - not much but after.
The thing is - 95% of the (RD) kids are going to rejected - so youāll never know why.
I think the rice box is more of just a fun tradition rather than an important thing you must do
I agree that itās a fun tradition - and Iām not sure there is a right answer - but I would think no answer is not the right answer. Just my opinion. All of us have them. None of us are admissions.
Can someone please explain whatās the box?
The āBoxā was a required part of the application - this is from their website:
One of Riceās long-standing traditions is āThe Box,ā a question on our application where we ask all of our applicants to share an image of something that appeals to them. The Box gives them the opportunity to present us with an image that shares something about themselves, their interests or something meaningful to them.
He meant to submit it later and ended up forgetting. He checked his portal and it doesnāt say app incomplete, so who knows? It will be interesting to find out! When do they announce decisions?
