Yes, another reason not to try and game - although if you do, maybe it will move my daughter up the list
yes
If you are California resident, which school do you choose between UCSD CS and Rice CS?
$
Fit
Then you choose.
rice clearly has more prestige but that is def not everything. the quality of the programs matter, you will have more research opportunities at rice for sure but thatās not everything. If cost is a factor definitely go with UCSD, but if it isnāt take a deeper look at both schools, their respective programs, and most importantly what fits best for your personality and learning style. then make the decision.
Oh, I thought all UC schools were known as the research institutions with labs bigger than Rice. Thanks for the advice.
Safe to say Iām rejected. Itās the day before decisions and my non custodial parent waiver is still in review. Just waitlisted at Vanderbilt and Brown PLME is pretty much impossible.
Does it really mean anything if the non custodial waiver is still in review? Mine says the same thing.
If they havenāt approved it by now and decisions come out tomorrow it makes sense since financial aid offers are sent at the same time. I looked through CC and Reddit and other people who didnāt have it approved on the day of decisions were rejected. So Iām guessing itās safe to assume itās a no
mine is still in review as well. :// is there anyone here who has it approved?
Someone told me theirs was approved a couple days ago. Also saw a few people on Reddit with approved waivers
how do you check if its approved?
aww that kinda hurts. thanks for letting me know though!
It should say next to the request in your financial aid section
if you go to your rice portal, it should be under the financial aid tab
mine just says complete next to css. is that a bad sign?
Thanks @nycgal4 and @Neurorocks03, my checklist only says complete, so maybe not a good signā¦
The financial aid office has absolutely no relation to the admissions office. Rice is need-blind. They work as completely separate entities. If you do not have a non custodial waiver in your financial aid portal- that is likely because both of your parents are custodial. If it is not approved that means there is an issue in the financial aid office- not for admissions.
Yes, but if Rice is sending decisions tomorrow they would have the financial aid packages of accepted students complete? ā¦
This is from their website:
āWe understand there may be extenuating circumstances regarding the familyās ability to collect information about the non-custodial household. Families may petition to waive the non-custodial portion of the contribution by submitting the Non-Custodial Parent Waiver Request. These requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by our Appeals Committee and are not guaranteed to be approved. A parentās refusal to submit their portion of the application is not generally considered an extenuating circumstanceā
