Hi guys, I’ve been admitted to Rice University for ED last December to the Wiess School and was jumping up and down.
During my first semester before I got admitted, I had a B+ in Ap Statistics after struggling my first test by getting a 70 and then getting 100s all my other tests. I ended on a borderline B+/A- because I scrweed up my last test with a 79 and ended up with a 88.9
This semester, our third quarter has ended and we have one more quarter left with 3 tests and a project left. I literally screwed up my first test with a 60 and am standing at an overall of 65 which is a D. I guess I know I can raise my grade, but what if I don’t? Would I get rescinded? All my other grades are As and Bs, which are all similar with my semester 1 grades.
Im really worried. Ive worked so hard all my highschool career, and my parents have put in so much for me to succeed. Im scared one test I decided to slack off because I was sick with the flu at the time might mess my entire life up and am losing sleep. Please anybody with experience/information help me out. Even writing aout this right now is getting me dizzy. The school website doesn’t seem to give much information regarding rescind policies.
Why? What @suzy100 is accurate; you won’t get a official Rice answer here.
Pull it up, and it won’t matter. If you end the course with a D, then yes, you are at high risk of having your admissions rescinded, so avoid that issue.
@ricebio I would talk to your Stat teacher and explain the situation. I’ll bet that they do not want to see your hard work jeapoardized either so ask them what you can do to make sure you do not end up with less than a C in the class. They might come up with some other extra credit or something. In the end making sure you don’t end up with a D is a lot less stress than worrying what will happen if you do.
I have heard that you should maintain an average no lower than on average one letter grade below your previous averages in your classes before applying to college.
I’ve already raised it to a borderline C+, with just one test! If I raise it just two more points, ill be at a B- or a B! I have 3 more tests left, so I’m really happy and reassured now. Thanks for all the replies.
@ricebio What is missing from the discussion is the reason for your extra low test score that sank your GPA. College admissions officers are reasonable and want to know the context for grade declines. Students whose grades decline because they stop applying themselves in their senior year put themselves at risk. By slacking off, they reveal a lack of diligence and conscientiousness, character traits that colleges disdain. You seem conscientiousness and so explaining the reason for your grade decline in addition to your intense efforts to improve your current grade would help you avoid an admission rescission.
@ricebio The reason for your low grade on one test, “slacking off due to illness” might send an inaccurate message. Maybe exhaustion or discomfort due to flu symptoms are more accurate reasons for low grade performance. Slacking off connotes a deliberate decision to avoid applying oneself in the absence of hindrances or obstacles. Illness is a valid hindrance.
