Hi, since I'm an international student, i dont have the opportunity to visits schools. I'd like to understand the feel of Rice University.
I know that academically its a top notch school
What about the other stuff? The people? Diversity? Class sizes? Opportunities?
I watched some videos, and the campus seems awesome!
Are the academics balanced with social life?
(btw, i intend to major in Cog Sci)

There’s a Rice-specific forum. Have fun! [Rice University - College Confidential](Rice University - College Confidential Forums)

thanks .

My daughter is a Rice grad ('07) and I can’t say enough positive things about Rice. Her experience was wonderful and, overall, I believe Rice provides a better college experience than the Ivy my son attended. His school was the better fit for him, but Rice is just awesome. It is the perfect size- individual attention but still a major university. My daughter loved Houston and all it had to offer, but the Rice campus is gorgeous. It is easy to get around and is in a safe part of Houston (in 3 of the directions at least). The residential college system allows you to make friends easily and keep them for all 4 years. Off campus housing is easy to find and there are lots of options. There is good diversity and it is NOT conservative, despite what all the Texas-haters will tell you.

You’re an international student and you want to live in Houston? Are you sure?

from what I understand, there are a LOT of int’l students at Rice. Have you ever visited it? And, as MOWC says, Rice is in the nice part of Houston.

I am amazed by that part of Houston with all those hospitals all lined up along Main St. I’ve had 2 friends get extensive cancer treatments there.

Rice does have a decent international student body and Houston is a great place to live and the weather would fit the needs of most students who would want to avoid the crazy winters.

mom2 - can you post a message about Rice in 2012 parents forum. Lots of parents asking questions but not too sure about it. I live 5 miles down the road and so it is last choice for my kid!

Informative - what is wrong with Houston? It is 95 degrees today!

Seconding the recommendation of Rice. Great school!! My s is also a grad and I cant say enough great things about it.
