Made this thread hoping to find anyone who has received an invitation to Rice’s VISION program for URM applicants. Invitations last year started going out on January 6th (Friday).
I was wondering about this as well! Submitted my application 2 months ago and went to SOAR! Loved Rice and would love to go back. But does getting into SOAR mean that they probs wouldnt invite me back for VISION??
@BlackNerd1015 unfortunately, you probably wont be invited back since you already went to SOAR. However, you can basically consider yourself accepted to Rice since there’s a 99% acceptance rate from SOAR to Rice.
Dang wow. I really hope so because Rice is one of my tops!
@BlackNerd1015 I noticed you were accepted to Yale SCEA, congrats! I was accepted to Harvard SCEA but I’d definitely consider Rice even though I live quite close haha.

I emailed the head of the program and she said the first wave of invitations will start going out soon.

@unicorn3223 I got an email and then saw it in my applicant portal.
I got email then looked and saw it it on update portal. Stoked! Ready for the Feb. 18th.
Does getting an invitation indicate good chances of getting in? Got invited and can’t wait for the opportunity to meet other possible future Owls!
I heard it does indicate a good chance of admission! Received my invitation in email two days ago 
@MonroeWasAPisces @bryagod VISION is Rice’s likely letter. Past threads have people saying they were told that they were “unofficially” accepted by adcoms/professors and about 25-50% of VISION attendees get Rice’s $25.5K scholarship.
How may of you going to do the online chat with Rice staff and current students on Jan 17th at 7;30 pm EST 6:30PM CST?
I plan on participating in the online chat !! Has anyone heard anything about what chances diminishing if you get invited but decide not to attend VISION?
@leathershirts your chances won’t be diminished, if you were good enough to be invited to VISION you will be accepted in March.
Hey guys, the email they sent states that they can’t reimburse you for mileage/gas. So far, all I’ve seen is that they reimburse you for airfare. Do you guys know if I could get reimbursed for taking a bus (sorta like a Greyhound)? I know bus tickets are much cheaper than plane tickets, but my family has gone through several expenses throughout the application process and I want to be able to save them from wasting those extra $80-$100
