Rice vs Berkeley vs Northwestern

Hey guys,
I've been trying to decide between these schools for a long time and my dad wants me to do so by tomorrow, so any input would be much appreciated. I am currently leaning towards either UC Berkeley or Rice, with a major in EECS for Berkeley and EE at Rice. What do you guys recommend I should do? Valid arguments would be much appreciated!

Tell your dad to abide by admissions good practice guidelines. You have until may 1 for the schools; that should be good enough for anybody. Sometimes decisions take a while.

At this point, a couple of days isn’t going to hurt you in getting housing.

Consider this: do you want a big school atmosphere or a smaller, more intimate city? Both Berkeley and Rice are essentially polar opposites (however, academically, both are strong and with excellent engineering programs).

Good luck with your decision! Don’t rush… tell your father to be patient. I didn’t decide on Rice until 2 days before May 1st.

Yea but if I end up choosing Berkeley then would I get priority on housing the sooner i turn submit my SIR?
Or is that not correct?

I was just trying to edit my previous post to the above which is why it appears after ^

Thanks for the advice slik nik!

you should choose between Rice and Northwestern in terms of education quality.Berkeley is very well known for sure but its student body is kind of lack of diversity and professors care a lot more about graduate students than undergras.

Although they might be a little different since you want to do EE
I do have to say that Rice’s EE is very much an interdisciplinary program because of the free electives they want you take. So you can take classes outside of engineering.
Rice is small, so you will have smaller sized classes. This allows better collaboration between students and with the faculty. Also the faculty will know you better so when you need him/her, they know you by name and probably can help you better. Rice has a small grad school population. This translates to more of an undergrad focus by the faculty. They are more dedicated to teaching you than advising their grad students.
Also you are in Houston, which is a city with a vast number of internship program. And they LOVE Rice students.

lol go to Rice, and hurry up and finish your CAS lawl

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is a CAS?
Also, what did you like about rice that would make others such as myself want to go?

ohh wow I’m soooooooo sorry, xD I thought you were my friend (he’s also deciding whether to go to Rice, Northwestern, or Berkeley LOL) what a coincidence eh haha. I asked him if he got my message on college confidential and he seemed pretty confused,i was like “then who is Mr Undecided?” xDD haha “iunno…” “oh…craaap hah”

CAS is one of the components required by the IB program in order for you to get the diploma haha
sorry bout that

oh okay, haha no worries at all
