Rice vs. Dartmouth

aka people who choose Ivies over colleges like Rice, Duke, Caltech because they think it will bring much prestige but they learn that it wasn’t a good idea because they don’t seem to fit.

Anyone have new insight into the decision between Rice and Dartmouth? D has narrowed accepted choices down to these two. She is looking at Policy Studies/International Economics minor writing.

Which school would be best?

Rice is not a big sports school, even if it’s slightly more so than Dartmouth. But if you are a little bit critical of frat and srat systems, Rice’s residential college system in my opinion gives all of the positives of fraterities without the exclusivity/elitism/etc that fraternities and sororities CAN (but certainly don’t always) exhibit. I would kind of say that about Rice in general, though. Down to earth and collaborative and money is not a part of anyone’s identity, but still hard as hell and a lot of fun. These are obviously pros about Rice but I don’t know anyone at Dartmouth so I can’t really speak to theirs unfortunately. I agree with the top comment (and most of the others). As far as diversity, pretty similar but more hispanic students at Rice.
