Rice vs Duke vs Emory vs UVa vs William and Mary

<p>I know that I can just google those universities and get to know the general picture, but I wanted to hear from people who know the schools well what they're like. I am really undecided now on what i want to major. Once upon a time I thought I was a lover of sciences--specially Physics, but now I think I am better off at humanities like Philosophy and Social sciences.
I live in Virginia too. I am planning on applying to one of those schools for ED; well it will be Emory vs Duke pretty much.
I sort of have the feeling that I will be accepted to WandM and UVa since I am in state, but as far as the other three, I am not sure.
I want to learn more about the social atmosphere of schools--I have heard pretty crappy things about UVa kids---rich kids who drink too much--sure those are all stereotypes and don't get applied to individual and everyone but I want to learn more.
I will visit UVa and WandM campuses but as far as the rest I dont think I can--too expensive for my budget.</p>

<p>Then I guess Duke if not William & Mary would suit your tastes and needs better.</p>

<p>W&M is known for a non conformative student body that consists of high achievers. Not Animal House but lots of fun. Students and Alums are very loyal and rave about their years there. More similar to Rice on your list than the other schools.</p>
