Rice Econ/math/or Engineering vs. NYU Stern(their business)?

I'm from the Northeast area; don't know much about Texas.
Visited NYU; did not really like their surrounding environment--
kinda noisy..idk if it's not gonna bother me later on as i get used to it
Could not visit Rice...; did a virtual tour online;
Kinda concerned about having a possibility of being lonely/sad at that tranquil environment...

I'm also very much concerned about the academic life..
- Heard NYU is so competitive that kiz don't even share a single note with others.
(turned down cornell&nwu for them being notorious for the GPA deflation... this is how much
i'm concerned about getting GPAs and stuff)

I worked my best during my HS career; Now I'm kinda tired of being
obsessed with class matters; although i did many activities, I feel like i did not do
those primarily for bettering my life. I wanna have some fun life at college.
- Prefer warm climate to cold environt; like to have four seasons tho
- Love to golf
- Love to play computer games (CoD, WOW, etc.)
- not really a die-hard party fan but like it in general (unless it goes creepy and nasty).

other than that.,
- Heard Rice's internet is very slow/ technology is far behind that of nyc
- reputation..?
- future opportunities..?

My best friend transferred from NYU Stern to Rice to major in Economics and Art last fall. The concerns with the environment you had with NYU, she had them too. She was incredibly smart and I know her decision to transfer to Rice was not easy, but one that she has not regretted for a moment. You should read this:

Technology shouldn’t be an issue, although I am not quite sure what you are referring to? I know the NYU dorm my friend was in didn’t allow wifi, so you had to use an ethernet cable. The entire Rice campus is wireless, so you can lie in the grass with your computer in the quad if you want. I know NYU is notorious for giving terrible financial aid, so I’m not sure if you’re in that situation. But part of the reason I know many NYU kids transfer out is because of the cost. In the Transfer Student Association, there are at least 4 students I know that transferred out of NYU because they wanted a better college experience. Rice students are very laid back and the environment is like no other, there is definitely a cohesive college community and one that fosters growth. Rice has an incredible reputation, academically and socially. We are ranked very high in happiest students and for quality of life by Princeton Review. Whether or not you subscribe to those rankings, it must count for something right? Students at Rice are generally happy and I know many students from both NYU & Rice (I’m from NYC) and I can attest that if you want the “college experience,” Rice would fit you better. But then again, I’m biased since I do go to Rice and I know that I wouldn’t be happy at NYU. It really sucks that you couldn’t visit Rice because it can make all the difference to actually see first hand where you are deciding on going for the next four years of your life.

But I don’t really know what your situation is, so you might be a better fit for Stern, than for Rice. Do you have a preference for an urban or suburban environment? Do you want to be in a big school or a small one? Do you mind being far from home?

Rice TRANQUIL??? Ha. And golf course just a very short distance away. I also remember seeing some students playing a game that seemed to involve golf clubs, beer and tennis balls or something like that on campus. Pick Rice - you won’t regret it.
