I am accepted at both Rice University and UCLA for a pre-med track. At Rice I plan on majoring in Biology and possibly minor in the humanities, and at UCLA I am a pre-human bio and sociology major. Cost is not an issue, so I would really like an opinion on which school would prepare me best for medical school in providing opportunities for good GPA, MCAT preparation, clubs, volunteering, etc. Thanks!
Do you like biology? if you are doing it just because you are a premed, DON"T. Biology is the overabundant major, and med schools do NOT care what major you are.
@paul2752 Yes I do like biology!
That’s great to hear, because lots of pre meds assume biology is an unspoken must.
I would recommend Rice University because one, it is not as competitive as UCLA(I believe) in temr of finding internsthip/research and whatnot. It is a living hell of compeititon in UC
I’d recommend Rice, because premed at UCLA is a bloodbath and advising/support is not much if there at all, when premeds really need support & resources. Rice will have the residential colleges, plenty of support, personal advising, and superb science offerings, if you can afford it.
