"Rich preppie" stereotype?

I'm very interested in Emory and am planning on applying ED.

HOWEVER...

I keep hearing that many students at Emory are rich, snobbish preppies with BMWs and designer handbags.

Could a quiet, artsy loner type without much money at my disposal fit in socially?

I'm one of those people that feel life is what you make of it. I'm sure you'd be fine.

everyone finds their place at emory...it all depends on what activities you join. while there are a large number of "rich preppie" students at emory, they definitely aren't the majority, and you're going to find that at almost all elite private schools because of the cost to attend.

most of my friends arent the rich preppy whatever "types".

there are plenty of people that fit both molds you described above but more importantly, the two types get along.

I've heard it referred to as "The Harvard of the South," but it isn't true. Most of the people who attend are very nice, and many aren't rich.

I find it hard to believe that Emory would not welcome kids w/o big bucks. Remember that they recruit w/ their merit money. IF students there are choosing it for merit money it seems highly unlikely you would not find a social cohort.....just like you. Kids who choose a school for the money.....well there would be more kids there than just you!!
