Richard Stockton College

Any opinions on school please.

I live about 5 miles from the school. If you would like to PM I would be happy to share what know. The school doesn't have the 'traditional' campus- it is quite spread out. Stockton offers Merit money for many- you could check their criteria online. The newer gym is called THE BIG BLUE< and, is one large square box. The performing arts center is small, and the seats almost go straight up, and scary if you are in the upper rows watching a play.

I believe the criminal justice program, and physical therapy programs are well respected. They now offer teacher certification programs, and due to location near casino industry, there is a unique "hotel hospitality" program as well.

Galloway township is very spread out, without a centralized downtown area. I would be concerned with what the students do on weekends around here. You should definitely VISIT.

We drove by the college last night, on the way to visit someone in the hospital, which is next to the college, and I noticed how far the students have to walk from the newer dorms to the classrooms. A long walk, on a rambling pathed walkway. I wouldn't want my daughter to have to walk that at night. Perhaps they have shuttle buses?

I think about 2,000 students reside there, and many commute to classes.

My nephew went to Stockton for two years, and has since transferred. From his stories, it sounds like it is a big party school. He did not see a lot of academic motivation in the students.

There may be a few slackers at RSC like at any college, but the programs at the school are very sound. The liberal arts, particularly history and English are excellent, as is the core curriculum. As for the sciences, RSC is one of the few colleges that offer an intensive undergraduate program in Marine Science (which is typically a graduate discipline). The Biology studies are pretty good. My overall impression is that RSC has a rigorous program but is a limited-stress place where motivated students can excel.

My old office-mate at UNC graduated from Richard Stockton. He started out at Northeastern, hated it and transferred to RSC because it was closer to home. He ended up graduating with a double major in Marine Science and Geology and is performing quite well in his MS program. He spoke very highly of RSC and I would say that it is worth a visit at least.
