For those of you who are attending/will be attending UR, do you have any knowledge of UR’s biology department, or its science programs in general? I really liked the atmosphere of the university when I visited and I know it has a good reputation in academics overall but don’t know much about its biology programs. How would you rate its faculty/courses?
Thanks!
I have 2 students at UR, one is a senior double majoring in Biochemistry and Computer Science and one is a sophomore majoring in Biochemistry. They really enjoy the small classes and have developed close relationships with their professors. They started doing lab research with faculty mentors beginning in their freshman years and have had paid summer research internships. They have presented research posters at conferences and their advisers have been excellent. The faculty at UR is top notch and my daughters have found their classes to be challenging and interesting.
The senior plans to continue on to get a PhD. She was recently offered a post-baccalaureate fellowship at the National Institutes of Health(certainly facilitated by great recommendation letters from UR faculty) and will be working on research and applying to graduate school next year. UR definitely has prepared her well to pursue a science career.
