Richmond Scholar Recipients

Does anyone know when notification of Richmond Scholar recipients will go out? Will it be by phone, email, or letter? Thanks.

Hi I was notified by e-mail this morning offering Richmond Scholarship (Oldham designation)

Congrats!!!

just got the call for Boatwright… over the moon…!!! =D =D =D

science scholar! yay yay yay! I got a call btw

Have any other Oldham finalists heard yet?

Have any other finalistists been called? We are on pins and needles!

And has anyone heard of the artist scholars being contacted yet?

I think I have held my tongue long enough now. I cannot believe the lack of professionalism, decency and common courtesy on display by the University of Richmond. It has now been a week since people in India, Hong Kong and other far off places have posted their news that they have won one of the Richmond Scholar awards, yet kids in Illinois and Ohio who presumable have not been awarded one have heard nothing. NOTHING!

My son has competed for similar scholarships at 5 other schools, and has gotten three full ride offers as a result. The two schools where he did not win one of the full rides called him personally the same day they called the winners. Imagine that? They didn’t leave him languishing to try to figure out if “maybe he might still get a call”, or “maybe they are waiting for someone to turn it down”.

It’s very easy to call a student and tell them that they have won a scholarship. But if you don’t have the guts to call a student and tell them they have not won, then you shouldn’t be sitting on the scholarship committee.

Pathetic.

Sorry Frustrated Dad. I agree with you that they did not conduct this properly. I hope your son receives good news. It is great that he has the other offers.

Richmond’s whole notification process has been extremely unprofessional and indefinite this year. I applied RD and still have not heard back, and now I’m hearing that offices are running late with decisions so letters won’t be mailed out until the end of this week?

Additionally, through all my visits to campus and looking on their website, never have I heard about Richmond sending “likely” letters to applicants…2 weeks before RD decisions come out anyways. And they don’t even send them to particularly strong candidates–just regular students. And only a small amount. Also, I’ve read on here that some students got admitted by email several weeks ago! Or that they got vague “Congratulations” or “Thank you for applying” emails…what’s up with that?

And then the end of last week, I get an email from my admissions counselor about Richmond athletics and academics, hinting that I should keep Richmond as my top choice…but I haven’t even been admitted yet?

IDK what’s going on at the admissions office, but there are HUGE discrepancies in notifying us about acceptances and financial aid/awards.

I completely agree. My D has heard from all her colleges except her favorite Richmond. She was deferred from them and has been waiting patiently but I find the entire process of “likely letters,” etc. very unprofessional. We want to make a decision but this has been very frustrating.

yep-UR is the only 1 out of D’s 10 dragging their feet

S2 really enjoyed his 3+ days at UR and especially meeting the other finalists. Two of his new friends in the artist designation have heard. Has anyone else been notified one way or another in artist category? We are still waiting.
Thanks and best wishes to all!

haven’t heard anything yet…i think we can only wait…well… life

My D has heard from every college except for Richmond. When we called the admissions office they said they were to be mailed mid-week. We’re on the west coast and the first candidate’s day at Richmond is a week from today! My D hasn’t received a likely letter or a special email, yet her scores and GPA are on high end. But, she is interpreting the lack of emails as a negative sign, which I don’t think it is. We are frustrated too. Since they are running late, I wish they would just post the letters on bannerweb so students can plan visit trips, etc.

We did notice that one of the staff associated with the Richmond Scholars program is no longer working there. Perhaps that explains the delay.

got my e-mail from u of r today…sadly…it’s about money again!!! money money money!!! why american education is so freaking expensive!?

S2 got letter today: Not a recipient. Still likes UR!

Mom - We were disappointed last year but daughter is attending and loving life. I’m just sorry to hear so many complaints about admissions this year. Our experience last year was top notch. I hope they listen to some of the seemingly very legitimate complaints.
