Richmond Scholars class of 2018

Hello everyone,I was wondering if anyone got the Semifinalist Notification for Richmond Scholar????????????????????????????????????????????

…might want to look 2 threads down ;-)

I got one :3

Thank you,Bigdadreed.I didnt notice that before…And Pindiboy…Congratulations…Actually when You send the application?..I am guessing that they review in the order of submission…And I send it in DEC 6(deadline!)…

No, its random review. I sent mine on December 6th as well.

Yep! Got one on Friday!

I’m interested in the stats and profiles of the students who are invited. Please post your info.

2060 SAT (600M, 750CR, 710 W)
3.6-3.7 gpa UW, 4.0 W
All AP classes 9th grade-10th grade

Extra Curriculars:
Black belt in Karate
Assist in Karate studio
Played piano for 13 years: competitions, concerts
Worked on a research project for 2 summers at a neuroscience lab
Won various awards for research paper

I also speak Russian.

Received my semifinalist email Thursday!

Thanks. Congrats and good luck

Thanks! To be honest, I didnt think I stood a chance at getting in the senifinalist round because I have very average stats and I dont have a long list of extracurriculars. So I think they must really take into account essays and possibly even recommendations.

32 ACT, 4.75 WGPA, 3.9 GPA, magnet high school program with rigorous courseload
Unique common app essay related to music

I was surprised my daughter was selected as a semi-finalist because I assumed many applicants would have had higher scores. She does, however, have remarkable accomplishments in music (piano and voice), so I feel she may have stood out because of that. I see you have the same, tempe9! Daughter is also a pianist and has won numerous competitions…are you applying for the Artist Scholar?

I applied to Science Scholars and Oldham. While I love the piano and music, I plan to go into medicine and do a major/do a concentration in neuroscience.
I thought that I would have a better chance at science scholars because of my research :)

2280 SAT, Don’t have GPA in my country but my grades are great, rigorous courseload and a tough school, one of the top few in a batch of 350 students. Good commonapp, great richmond supplement [because I love Richmond for some odd reason :P], (I have been told) killer good recommendations. Blog for children with 6 million unique or 13 million views, several science and math olympiad victories, english society president, four summers of work/internships, working with a teacher on her PhD research, managed and organized some public events and one international event. <— that is the best I’ve got. Notice the acute lack of community service (fund raising for the poor, hospital work, child care, etc. Just have one small fundraiser under my belt). I regret not doing the community service =/ Sent in my submissions for Oldham and Boatwright  Did well (I think) on both. All I do now is hope and pray for the finalist spot =P International Student (Pakistan).

95/100 GPA (we don’t have weighted GPA or honors, but we do have advanced classes that are basically the same as taking a college course and are allowed to take any APs that are offered from any classes we take… I’ve taken every advanced class possible except Physics C [bleh], although I took Physics B, and Advanced Chemistry [I took our regular Chem in tenth grade]), 2150 SAT, and two highish SAT subject tests. My extracurriculars I feel are decent (I’d prefer not to shout out everything about me on here haha). Common app essay felt great and the Richmond essay was my favorite of all the ones I’ve written.

tempe39 - best of luck to you! Your science accomplishments sound impressive as well!!

Good luck to all the semi-finalists :)

how were you notified?

^ email from Richmond

“Scholars will be invited to campus for an all-expense paid visit” Will the Scholars have to pay their own travel fees? If not, then if there are some international Scholars, will they also be flown to Richmond free? Curious.

When is the next round coming out of notifications. Seems like most we’re notified on a Friday

Good luck to all. Is a semi finalist guaranteed some sort of financial aid at least?
