I was notified that I’m a semifinalist today, was anyone else? It seems much earlier than in past years…
I got the notification today also! I’m not sure about the timeline as opposed to other years, but I’m excited anyways! The turnaround for the application supplements is really quick, though. They’re only giving us two weeks to turn in the additional essays, and Christmas is this weekend. I’m a little mad about the timing, but I’m hoping for the best!
I’m excited too! But I’m kind of stressed about the two week deadline - I’m planning on applying for the Boatwright and Oldham scholarships, but Boatwright requires a graded essay with teacher comments. I’m on winter break and all my essays are kept in a file at my school, and we don’t go back until the day after the supplements are due. Not sure what exactly I’m gonna do, but hopefully it’ll work out! Good luck to you!
Ayy squad. I was so excited when I saw the email! It was such a nice counter to my deferral from UChicago. Good luck you guys!
My D was notified today. Very exciting and also a lot earlier than I expected. I’d be interested to know how many semi-finalists and then finalists they usually choose. Good luck to all!
Do any of you that have been selected as semifinalists mind sharing your stats? As in GPA and test scores? I would be very interested so my daughter and I know whether to hold out hope or not!!! Thank you in advance!
Hi guys, I got the notification today too. Super excited!!! Yet the two-week deadline seems to be quite intimidating tho. Still, hope it all turns out for the best. Good luck!!!
@10mbw68 4.0 UW/5.174 W (on SC’s weird GPA scale), 2310 old SAT (1560 CR/M), 35 ACT
@10mbw68 - 3.95 GPA, 33 ACT, lots of AP/IB classes.
Congratulations to all those who got in! I’m eagerly awaiting my result. Can the ones who got accepted share what they wrote for their Richmond supplement?
You all already got it for RD? Does that mean if we didn’t get an email we aren’t a semifinalist?
I have a 33 ACT, 4.0 UW/4.56 W (top 1% of my class) so I was hoping I’d be in the running.
When did you all apply? I only applied around November 25thish so I’m hoping that has something to do with it…
@berkdork They do it in batches, don’t worry - there’s still plenty of time. I don’t think when you applied has anything to do with it though, I applied on November 30th.
Does anyone know if this could be alphabetical? Or connected to your application plan (ED or RD)?
@knope1959 I doubt either one. My last name is at the end of the alphabet and I applied RD
Congratulations everyone!!! I’m absolutely freaking out over the application supplements. Would someone mind explaining to me the kind of graded paper Boatwright requires? I’m an international applicant, and my school only grades final and midterm exams.
@bacman, my D has the same question. Her notification said if you have any questions, please call or email us. Well, she emailed with no response. So I just called and the office is closed for the holidays until Jan 3! Good luck!
@bacman @luckymama64 I had an issue earlier, called admissions, and was told to leave a voicemail for Erica Hall and email scholarsoffice@richmond.edu. I did both and received an email reply from Erica Hall at elawrenc@richmond.edu saying that she would be working remotely and the best way to contact her was through that email, so maybe try that?
@bacman I think it is best if you try to reach someone in the program to clarify. However, I’m guessing that a paper from an AP or IB lang class that provides some analysis of literature would be best. Or perhaps a research paper that explores a science or history topic.
@luckymama64 @margaret1332 @elena13 Thank you!! I appreciate the help. I’ll guess I’ll try to contact someone in the program.
For the people who wanted stats of semifinalists:
ACT 35, New SAT 1540 (770/770), 4.0 UW, 4.32 W, IB Diploma Candidate, Nat’l Merit Semifinalist
I wrote the supplement about if I could go to one historical moment when it would be, and I talked about the Constitutional Convention.
Hope this helps!
