At this point in deciding between the two schools, it has come down to one factor: The people. Wake's stereotype is that is has huge southern conservative entitled rich kid attitudes. I'm not necessarily saying some of those things are bad, but I don't like arrogant people at all. Greek life is much more prevalent when compared to Richmond too. I want to join a frat, but I don't want it to be extreme. Can anyone attest to how good or bad Richmond is when it comes to social life, it's the only thing keeping me from just flat out choosing a school.

Although a response from a student might be better, I can relay my sophomore daughter’s experiences so far. She has told us that there is some the entitled rich kid stuff (our income is modest), but she has made many great friends who aren’t into all the material stuff. Richmond does have many students who get significant amounts of need-based aid, and some decent diversity too, and approx. 10 % are international students who bring a different viewpoint to campus. Greek life is there if you wish, but does not seem to dominate the campus. There are plenty of clubs and activities in addition to greek life. Academics and professors have been great so far, and she is working on studying abroad next spring.

The social life on campus seems to revolve around parties at the greek houses(non-residential) and the on-campus apartments. She is not a big partier, but does sometimes attend. She likes going to nearby Carytown with friends - nice shops and restaurants, and goes downtown occasionally. She likes working out at the gym - lots of classes and equipment there.

Good luck making your decision! DD2 will be joining her older sister at UR in the fall.
