Is the deadline for financial aid applications screwing anyone else over?

I mean, I'm Canadian so filling out FAFSA and PROFILE is really annoying and time consuming, not to mention that exams are coming up in 2 weeks time, we have summatives, big tests and stuff... like **** come on Jan 15??

This is really making me angry; none of the other universities need it till at least February... well, from the ones I'm applying to anyway.

And scholarship deadline too................................. soo annoying lol

I love Wash U from what I've found out about it (I obviously can't visit), but this part is ticking me off.

FAFSA won't take ya too long. Use the 2007 tax return to estimate it, that's what they told me. Also, I think they are way more generous to have their own financial aid profile instead of CSS profile! saves you 25 dollars and a lot of time.

I completely agree. Having your application, finaid, and scholarship all due THE SAME DAY is ridiculous, especially when your scholarship application process is so murky and uninformative.

The scholarship deadline is especially horrible. so. many. essays. BLARGH!!!!

kROCK91, how do you mean the deadlines aren't set in stone?

Its real simple - It is their money so they get to set the rules for both aid and scholarships - if you don't like the rules, then don't play. I am sure that there are plenty of people who understand that WashU has expectations when giving away money.

I'm actually not as sure anymore about that, tinuviel, but I know for many schools the deadlines aren't set in stone, since they know some people will have trouble getting their tax returns.

I had no idea we could use 2007 tax returns though. That helps a lot.

Use 2007 tax return to estimate. Once you get your 2008 tax return, make corrections and send it again if there is any changes. Guys, just email them if you have any questions. They are really helpful. They replied my email the next day, and if I emailed them during their office hours, they replied me that day.

100Canadian - That could all be and indeed the deadline may not be ideal - but why spend time complaining about something that is beyond your control - like a famous philosopher once said - let me worry about the things i can change and not worry about the things I can not change - and give me the wisdom to know the difference between the two.

I know ST2, and you're absolutely right. And I did submit my FAFSA but am not completely done yet. However...... Washington U changed their deadline!!

"The financial assistance application deadline for the Class of 2013 (our fall 2009 freshman class) has been extended to February 15, 2009. To be considered for need based financial assistance for the 2009-2010 year, please submit your CSS-PROFILE/FFP-EZ and FAFSA by February 15, 2009."

Excellent!!!! I was planning on working all night and trying to fax them something tomorrow. I just got the figures I needed today and with time spent helping to print, copy and mail stuff for all of the other deadlines, I didn't have time to even get started.

Bah! My mom and I worked so hard putting all that information together...I wish they would have emailed me or something! At least I'll get to update my FAFSA with 2008 information by then, I guess. (Assuming you can update your FAFSA after it has been submitted?)
