Riding Schools

I disagree with Klaz413 that the academics at Ethel Walker's are very weak. I just visited it last week. Its endowment was low for a few years, but it sold some land to the town of Simsbury last year (with rights to use it) and is now flush with money for scholarships. The girls are very happy there, enrollment is up over 40%, and the riding program is first rate. Its average SAT score is between 1100 and 1200, not public school levels at all. I love the new head of school. She is very personable, and the girls like her a lot. They told me that they are friendly with Avon and Westminster guys and have a good social life.

Average SAT is 1100 to 1200? What is the public school, or national average!

on the ethel walker site, there is a link to see a list of recent college matriculations/academic stats
The Ethel Walker School ~ Introduction

Damaris - we visited Walker's as well, and the new head of school impressed us too.
Still, the reputation is weak academics. I don't know what that means, since its relative. How does one find out what the average SSAT's are from ones local public school ???????? THAT knowledge would be handy alright...:)

Darn, that link huskem posted is on word, which I dont have.

oops i did it again........

I was reading SSAT when Damaris posted SAT.

The public school scores where we live have (all three) scores around 550 range . Do they add only two of them? Sorry, I'm new at this...

okay, I'm now up to speed on the SATs info ( it's been a long while since I took them, and there have been some changes since then...)
Anyway, Thanks Damaris, for that information. In comparison to many public schools I would agree those are very good scores.

i can assure you george is anything but dismal. i have attending camp there for a week every summer for the past five years, and i will be starting as a freshman this year. i have spent considerable amounts of time on campus (from camp scavenger hunts, visiting days, revisit days, my interview, and my best friend’s mom works on campus so we’ve gone exploring together) and it is beautiful. the stables seem very nice as well, although i haven’t been inside them the outside is bright and cheerful and the horse that i met (and his teenage rider) both seemed cheerful and relaxed.

Sadie,
A few years off, But Stanford has a great riding stable - mostly English and jumping.

Fountain Valley School of Colorado has riding programs, but I don’t think they cover that in FA. They do give out great aid, though!

The academics aren’t as rigorous, but you know, they’re still good.
