GPA: 4.0 (almost certain)
SAT 2: Biology M-710
I'll probably take 3 more; math IC, Chem and US History next year, and probably two or three more during the senior year.
AP: Euro-3 : (

I HAVENT TAKEN THE SAT YET SO CAN ANYONE GIVE ME AN IDEA OF WHAT A GOOD SCORE WOULD BE? I ALSO TAKE AP EURO THIS YEAR AND IM GOING TO TAKE AP US NEXT YEAR, AND PROBABLY 6 MORE APS.

Go by the 2250 rule for SATs.

2250 is a good score
but the question is, what kind of ivy are you looking at here, like HYP or the rest?

im actually looking into the top ivies, so ill probably have to score over 2200. i hope i can do it. ill try my best.

Looks like you're a music person like I am, but I play violin. Harvard and Yale used to be my dream schools, but after doing some research I've given more thought to Rochester/Eastman, Rice/Shepherd, and USC/Thornton. PM me if you want.

well im not really a music major person. i wanna major in a science field, and i just think music will help me in my admission process. yea i really enjoy playing music too, but that is not my main focus. ill probably do music as a minor.

Please, this is about the 50th time he has posted the same pathetic thread.....Enough!!!! What do you think someone will tell you that's new???????

Your e/cs are okay. Most applicants to HYP have resumes with just as good e/cs.

As for your SAT score, raise it, and take more AP classes.

HYP from observations of my fellow peers admitted, seem to want a person who is "exceptional" in one area.

Yeah, I app'd in and was admitted to Rice Shephard, UT Music and Juilliard last year. The only music programs of the topper schools that I like are UMichigan, Columbia and Yale in my mind. If you have any questions, hit me up. Just PM or AIM me.

have u ever tried applying to HYP thatindiandude? i want to know if music really helps a lot. i plan to write about my penchant for music in my essays. ill also try to get 2200+ on my SAT. i hope i have a good chance after doing that.

bump..........

Dude violin and piano are like the most common instruments for applicants. If you want music to give you an edge, learn the bass or viola.

Also, what school do you go to? Adcoms will take that into account as well.

i dont learn violin or piano. i learn cello. when did i say i learn violin or cello? well anyway, i go to a school in New York, Syosset High School. it's ranked among top 100 in the nation.

***. Dude the comment about learning a new instrument was pretty insipid. But anyways, yeah I did apply to HYP. I was deferred Harvard early and ultimately rejected, but a music prof sent me a letter saying he enjoyed my CD. I was waitlisted and then rejected at Princeton and rejected at Yale. I did get in at Penn and Rice though(Cal Tech also, but they didn't care much for the music). Hey music is a HUGE selling point. Sure there are tons of music people, but how many are as competitive and successful as you? Universities are always looking for people focused in their field of choice, and you seem dedicated. Start making some nice recordings.

thx thatsindiandude. i will make good recordings, but i also want to show that i can get into HYP not just because of good musical activites. i want to show them that im dedicated in other things too.

Don't make a huge list of ECs like that... college admissions counselors won't be impressed. They want to see committment in one or two ECs. "Clean-up and served lunch" should never be on a college app. Instead of listing every single place you had "a gig" just do commas and say "I play things here, here, here, and here." Admissions counselors are humans, and when they read that list of ECs, and see half the crap you put on there, they will start questioning validity and honesty of the application, and how important half the stuff you are putting on there is.

Well, fancy that ladies and gents... he looks just like the rest of us. You are a stellar student and well-rounded person... just like every other Ivy League Applicant! So my congratulations and my condolences -- you have as good of a chance as any of us ... but really, even the best student is still a lottery ticket chance away from the Ivies.

i know, i plan to bring out my penchant for music through my essays. i am dedicated to music especially and probably one other thing. i just want to show how versatile i am thru this, AND dedicated i am thru essays. thx for ur advices. ill definitely take out superfluous things.

bump bump bump
