My daughter is very interested in applying to muhlenberg. She has good stats ACT:28 and unweighted GPA 3.9/weighted 4.2. Decent school involvement and extra curriculars, as well as strong community service/religious involvement. However due to some learning differences only has several honors courses and no AP. This will not change for her senior year. For those that have been applied and accepted, did you have a large amount of AP or honors and does anyone think if that will be detrimental to her acceptance. Also is considering applying ED if that makes a difference. Thanks for any input.
Congratulations to your daughter on her achievements! My son was accepted this year. He does have AP courses, but I do not think that was the main reason for his acceptance. IMO a lack of AP’s would not be detrimental for your daughter. Have you visited? I believe they track interest. We visited twice, including an interview, and he and his admission’s counselor seemed to hit it off. Muhlenberg comes across as strong on community. As you move along, if it’s the one, ED would make a difference, but not required IMO. Good luck in your journey!
I don’t know the answer about AP classes, but we also recently visited and my daughter interviewed. We were told that they highly weight showing interest and also put a high weight on the interview. I believe that they take 50% of the class from the ED pool. Her grades and test scores clearly show that she is capable of doing well.
@handlmom Muhlenberg sounds like a great fit for your daughter. As long as she is taking honors courses and doing well she will be fine. AP courses or lack of them would not be a deal breaker. An interview and if you guys are certain about the fit then applying ED is the way to go. First, Muhlenberg puts a heavy weight on getting to know potential students. Interviews are important to them. They do have an impact. Secondly, a majority of their Freshman class will be from the ED pool. Just make sure that you are all sure as it is supposedly a binding decision. One other bonus for you is that Muhlenberg has an excellent disabilities office to support students who have some learning differences and need some support in that area. Best of luck to you!
@handlmom If your daughter likes Muhlenberg, she should apply. I echo what beenthereanddone says above. There will be students with lots of honors and AP classes as well as students who do not have so many. No worries.
There are more people on campus without a ton of AP than you might expect. There’s a pretty sizable theater contingent there that really didn’t have a high school AP program that lined up with their strengths/interests. Don’t sweat it, but be sure to show good interest and present your story in the interview. My daughter has loved her time there.
