Hi there. I am really considering gatech, more specifically majoring in computer science. I really think the threads idea is great, and will help me get more specialization in the areas I want.

My main questions are on the overall rigor of the computer science program. I know that tech is famous for its difficult engineering and thus a lower GPA average. How does the computer science program compare to the engineerings? Should I expect the same level of work and hard professors as, say, the computer engineering students? I've heard horror stories about students who do great in HS, but get to tech and can't handle it.

Also, I was wondering what kind of connections and opportunities I can expect from the college of computing. For instance, would I really be a lot better off going to a school like Carnegie Mellon, who has a 'high ranked' computer science program (just because of program prestige)? Do the GT connections (with companies) extend to programs beyond engineering? If I work hard and get good experience and graduate with a good GPA can I expect to be wanted by good tech companies?

Answers to any of these would be great. Thanks in advance.
