Hey guys!
So I’m currently a sophomore, and my school is making us choose our junior year courses this week.
Although I want to have a fairly rigorous schedule, I would like to maintain good grades.
Here is my planned schedule:
AP Bio
AP Lang
Pre Calculus Honors
US History Honors
AP Psychology
Human Anatomy
Latin 3
Is this a good junior year schedule? I understand how pivotal schedules for eleventh grade are for colleges.
Also, should I take AP US History instead of Honors? Or would that make it too difficult?
Thank you!!!
Would be hard to give you an answer without knowing more about APUSH at your school. At my 2 kids’ school, no one wants to miss out on APUSH. Excellent teacher who makes history exciting without unnecessary busy work and importantly, an incredibly high pass rate on the AP exam for many years. What do older students say about the class? Will it be an excessive amount of work? Are there others who currently have similar schedules that you could consult?
AP Bio is pretty demanding at my kids’ school. They would want to make sure they weren’t getting into another class that demanding.
Having friends with kids at different high schools in the same city and even in different states has taught me that a class schedule at one school can’t be compared to one at another. Teachers & homework load vary widely from school to school. Its not apples to apples. So I can’t advise you if you should take honors or AP US History. But I can tell you how my two worked out their AP heavy schedules.
@floridamomof3 thank you for your response! At my school, we have two teachers for APUSH. One is very strict and gives out packets of homework daily, while the other teacher is very chill and is a great teacher.
Current juniors that I have talked to said the class rigor is solely based on which of the two teachers you get. They both prepare you very well for the AP exam, but the work in one of the teacher’s classes is plentiful.
AP Biology at my school is hard, but it is not as bad as AP Chem. AP Lang is VERY hard at my school, and AP Psych is manageable.
Hence, I’m not sure whether to add APUSH or not. I’m in APWH right now, and I think the class is fairly easy.
APUSH is a hard class, but I love it. It also depends on the teachers you have. I’m really good at history compared to others at my school, but my teacher is extremely difficult (only about 11/80 got a 90+), and I have a B+ while other people who have an easier teacher are doing better. Although the class is very hard, the teacher is still very good (I didn’t want it to sound like I was bashing my teacher haha). You learn a lot in APUSH, and I’ve heard it’s one of the harder AP classes, but you learn so much, and I personally love it.
At my school, there is no Honors US History, there’s just AP, so I wouldn’t know the difference, but at my school, everyone who took Honors history the year before went into APUSH, so there may not be that much of a difference. It depends on how your school works.
If you enjoy history, I would definitely recommend taking it.
