What is the work load like? I heard it is extremely hard to get an 'A' at Colgate. Is this true?

How is the mathematics program here?

Also, what are the pros/cons of the school?

Also, how well-respected is Colgate by graduate schools?

I’m currently a junior at Colgate. I would say Colgate is difficult, but getting an A is not impossible.

If it helps, the average college GPA of students at Colgate is 3.33, compared to an average college GPA of 3.50 of similar calibre LACs.

My daughter attented a Top 10 private high school (okay, maybe top 20) so she worked very hard before college and managed to earn an A- average. At Colgate she now earns A’s and B’s, perhaps more of the latter. Good. I would not want her earning easy A’s but want her challenged. A hard-working B in a tough course is something to proud of.

Years ago when I attended Colgate, A’s were very rare, indeed. Today, they’re not rare at all, but there are far more B’s and some C’s as you’d expect. This is still grad inflation compared to when I went there as I rarely saw an A until Senior year. Nowadays, a smart, hard working Colgate student is going to earn a mixture of A’s and B’s, I’d say.

Graduate schools respect Colgate’s rigor. I don’t know much about the math program, but I’m sure it adds up to better than average. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
