Some things to note:

I'm taking P.E. for the required 1 credit in Physical Education

DTS is required for both programming and Microcomputer Technologies

Taking Micro Tech so I can take Network Engineering

AP Physics is a Double Period

AP Prep Pre-Calc is lower than Honors Pre-Calc

Many people take AP Programming 2 in Sophomore Year

Taking Guitar 1 for the Required 1 credit in Arts/Dance/Music

I'm a STEM kid, I guess. I want to major in Computer Science and become a programmer later in life (I think Network Engineering is a good back-up profession).

Any classes that I don't really need? Any classes that I should take?

I'd like to go to a college like MIT (Dream), Georgia Tech, CalTech, Carnegie Mellon Uni, Cornell, Berkeley, Stanford, etc.

Of course, this schedule that I've planned out can change, since I'm only a freshman in high school.

This schedule can and will change due to technicalities most likely. It looks good.

@Mandalorian

Yea, a thing or two might change, but most of it will stay like this

Take Chinese longer if you can

@BDM1994

I’m thinking about taking Chinese 4 at a community college since I dislike my teacher, not sure though.

I would highly recommend it. What schools are you looking at?

@BDM1994

Bottom of main post

Oh sorry didn’t see that. I would personally go do some research on those colleges and what they have to say about foreign language. They may say they only require two years, but they may want to 4 or more.
I did a little research on your schools cause I’m sick at home

MIT: they want to see biology, physics, and chemistry which you have but you may want to consider taking ap in those and not honors. They are much more of a math and science school but they do recommend two years of foreign language so to be safe try to take 3 years! It will look good.

Georgia Tech: Doesn’t say but their average classes of AP/IB/DE for each student is 6-11!

Cal Tech: They don’t recommend any language but still.

CMU: 2 years for foreign language but recommend going beyond their requirements.

Cornell: For Engineering, they want to see 2 algebras, 1 geometry, and Calc. You need Physics, chemistry, and biology. They also recommend language and computer science but not required.

Berkeley: Couldn’t find much info on site. You can look again.

Stanford: “We will focus our evaluation on your coursework and performance in 10th, 11th and 12th grades, primarily in the core academic subjects of English, mathematics, science, foreign language and history/social studies. We want to see that you have challenged yourself by taking accelerated, honors, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses if they are offered at your school”
This was on their Website

Hope this helped!!!

@BDM1994

After this year, I’ll have 3 years of Chinese (I’m a freshman currently)

And AP Chem and AP Bio are Double Periods… what should I replace them with? I originally didn’t have them because I want to be a programmer, what’s really the point of taking AP Chem and AP Bio…

Even if you want to be a programmer, you have to take the basic sciences for any science/engineering major. You can take out guitar and ap economics for one of the double periods. I think you will be okay not having language for more years in high school because you are applying to the engineering schools. I would so some more research on the colleges though.

Does your school even allow you to take AP Chem and Bio without taking the honors version first? If honors is a prerequisite, it’s a moot point.You might want to swap out AP Lit for a fun English elective, though.

@BDM1994

I’m taking guitar for the required 1 credit in Fine Arts

@skieurope

Yes, I do believe that Honors Chem is required to take AP Chem and Honors Bio is required to take AP Bio…

and I may or may or not switch AP Lit for another English class, not sure though

Bump :<

Bump…

You don’t need to bump after three hours.

Your maths and sciences look pretty good, which is a must for the colleges you want to go to.

@mrnephew

Do you think AP Chem is a must?

No; it’s a “nice to have.” However, since it’s a DP, and given your career aspirations, I don’t see two classes that I would swap it out for while maintaining graduation requirements. Don’t worry about it.

I’m not sure, I’m not going to be a tech person, but I think Physics is more important.

@skieurope @mrnewphew

Alright, thank you guys.

Could you also help and give a little input too? >.<
