Have all decisions - accept or reject - been sent out already? Or has anyone not heard yet?

two friends of mine called and found out they were accepted today!

i called monday. accepted :)

Also accepted. Too bad I sucked too much to get scholarships, so I guess RISD is out of the question.

Oh well, at least I don't feel like a complete failure anymore.

i called today... accepted!

My daughter got waitlisted. YUCH.

hahah, waitlisted here too..except i'm surprised i even got that, instead of a flat out rejection. i wasn't planning on attending even if i got in though, so eh it's all good :)

Well snapcakes, she REALLY wanted to attend. Did you find out where on the waitlist you are located? What school will you be going to?

My daughter got her acceptance notice today along with a letter saying she wasn't receiving any scholarships. My question is what happened to financial aid? Our EFC was really low with 3 kids in college next year and I guess I wasn't expecting that type of financial aid letter. What happened to colleges meeting the families need? Maybe I was spoiled by the financial aid dept. at Cornell U who says that they meet 100% of your financial need based on the FAFSA and Profile.

RISD is very stingy, apparently. My guess is that they give generous scholarships to just the most promising incoming freshman - after all, one famous name can boost the school's reputation by much more than many excellent, yet largely unknown artists.

Pure speculation, of course.

For the waitlisted, just know that RISD seems to accept quite a few transfer students. If you really want to be at RISD, think about reapplying next year. You won't have the full foundation year -- but then again, you'll miss a full year of that fabulous tuition!

RISD's Financial Aid offers notoriously slim pickings. I'm still not sure why, given that the school seems to have a pretty sweet endowment. My daughter had nearly full rides at several other great schools, but we ended up going with RISD and a smaller scholarship + financial aid loans + outside scholarships + rice & beans here at home. She's very, very happy there, and I believe in the end this was worth it for us and her, but I'm not completely sure that would be the case for most students.

RISD's financial aid offer in April 2004 made it impossible for my son to attend. Our EFC was pretty low and we were a one income family.
I tried to negotiate with both the head of fin-aid and the assistant Dean of admissions to no avail.
My son had high SAT scores, his art was published (some cover art for NYT best sellers). The excuse we got was they thought he would possibly not be humble as he had already enjoyed early success.

He decided to take a gap year and apply to some top tier schools who were known to be more generous with grant awards.
Last April he received the fat envelope from Amherst, Williams. Columbia and Princeton University where he now attends.
The fin-aid awards were all staggering.

It seems that RISD can attract and matriculate kids who are either wealthy enough or are willing to incur tremendous debt to attend art school. In our case they were willing to turn down a very talented student whose gifts were seen by some of the top schools in the country. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Still the best art and design school though.

My daughter was offered merit scholarships at 4 art schools but not a penny from RISD (we had no need according to our EFC). Like Alia, we are doing what we had to do to send her to RISD...and she loves it...and we love that she is there.

RISD has never claimed to meet a student's need. They will be very honest and tell you they do not give out much scholarships/aid. At Parent's weekend this year, the college president and president of the parent association both stressed their desire to increase their endowment to meet students' financial need and increase diversity. The second year, they did give my daugher a $1,500 scholarship :-)))

i got accepted and was offered a very generous scholarship, and desperately wish i could attend two schools at once, but i'm going to washington in st. louis (who gave me better scholarship money, but that wasn't the determining factor).
but risd is such a fabulous school! i'm planning on applying grad if i still want to be a textile designer in four years...
congrats to all accepted! don't give up hope to all waitlisted!
