RISD Pre-college Program: Foundation work needed?

I am new to CC so please bear with me :/
I would really like to attend the RISD pre-college program this summer but there are several things that I am concerned about:
1) THey say that you need to be at least sixteen years old, but since my birthday is not till after August 6, does this mean that I am not eligible? It also states that you must have finished your sophmore year, which by then i would have, so how does this work?
2) I have never taken or completed any sort of art course or training. I have done the usual stuff in primary school and did two years but they are both simply and not challenging, focusing less on technique, and more on creativity. Will this be a problem at the program? I know that you have to take 6 hour course for design and drawing foundation work, which is really discouraging for me. Please let me know your thoughts on this.
3) THe main reason why I'm heading for RISD is their photography sector available there. I really want to visit providence and see what it's like there. I originally wanted to head for Brown, as they do have some visual art courses there, and much less drawing :p So What I want to know is if the photography (traditional & digital) courses are any good?
4) I also heard about the partying and drugs as well as the lousy teachers? How much of this is true, if any?

Thanks!!

Call RISD and ask them all of your questions EXCEPT the one about the lousy teachers and drugs and partying.

Personally I find it hard to imagine lousy teachers at RISD but all things are possible. It may be a case of other kids talking and there’s always going to be someone who doesn’t like something in life, you need to find out for yourself. As for the partying and drugs, I don’t know but I suspect everyone is pretty busy. However with a group of young people away from home for the first time might happen, but that doesn’t mean you have to participate. Someone else on here might know more about the atmosphere.

But just call RISD and ask them. It’s possible since you be in the proper grade they’ll waive the age. And they can give you some indication of how much background you might or might not need.

Thank you for the reply. I will be sending them an email soon. Thanks again.
