I know I don’t qualify for the official dual degree program between Brown and RISD (I’m an incoming sophomore at RISD), but I hear things about kids getting degrees from both schools within 5 or 6 years anyway. So, what do you guys think the chances are of an incoming soph at RISD with a 3.7 college gpa (3.5 cumulative from a really good public high school, and decent but not super SAT’s) are for getting into Brown? Counting that I have a good essay and solid extracurriculars. I know it’s not nearly as competitive an application as many other transfers apply with, but does applying from RISD with the intention of double-majoring help much?

Is anyone currently studying at both schools or know anything about it (besides the official 2008 dual degree program deal)?

I don't know about transfer shot, I would say pretty good since a 3.7 is nothing to laugh about from RISD, but I can say that you cannot transfer into the dual degree program, which is ridiculous.

I don't want to tranfer all together. I don't plan on leaving RISD - I love RISD. I'm just interested in trying to work out a double major between the two schools. I'm in Illustration at RISD and would want to pursue Italian studies at Brown. I'm obviously not eligible for the official dual degree, but I was hoping that if I got into Brown I could work something out with both schools. It's kind of longshot, I know, but I think it's worth a try. I've heard about people being enrolled at both.

It's been done, and one of the most recent students who did it (organizing leaves from each school etc) is the program they based the new dual degree on. I'd contact Brown Admissions and talk to them about your options.

You don't need to officially transfer to Brown to do it. There are currently students getting degrees at both places; they have simply streamlined and solidified it with the new program.

Modest is right, contact both risd and brown admissions and find out!!

Hmm, I definitley thought I had to apply and get in to officially be a double major at both schools. Well, I'll look into it when I get back up to RI. Thanks.
